Lunix users can't even BE khajiit WTF

    Yes, maintained OSS is better than closed source.

    At what?

    @dse said:

    Closed source is like homeschooling, it only makes sense if you live in a boat or in the middle of corns.

    ... the fuck? That's wrong on so many levels.

    @dse said:

    Publishing the source to some random driver garbage will never help, instead of squeezing the source it might make more sense to educate them on the business advantages.

    Educate who? NVidia?

    You think NVidia needs education on how to run their business? From Linux-promoting hippies who love the GPL? You have got to be shitting me.

    Quality of course.

    @blakeyrat said:

    Closed source has its own culture, it is good if you want to keep some values or such crap and think by opening to the larger society those values diminish.

    @blakeyrat said:

    Not NVidia. Instead of litigating the hell out of GPL violators to squeeze their precious source code out (that will be just another dump and unhappy vendors), they should educate them for conformance. Keep them happy and let them do it in their own pace.

  • @dse said:

    Riiight.

    ... what? You've turned it from "doesn't make sense" to "absolute gibberish".

    Who is litigating? Who is "them"? You've lost me.

    Look, the same can be said of OSS, just with different values. Go live 'in the middle of corns' yourself.

    well, all I can say is when I had to track a nasty bug in a binary blob (that restarted some SoC maybe once a day) I had to track registers in a non-volatile memory and investigate them after each boot, this took months and of course the bug was in the binary driver. Tracking bugs are difficult, choose your tools/libraries wisely.
    And OSS is not going to solve your problem here either. You're still fucked if it's in a third party library. If you want to solve problems in third party libraries good for you. Have fun at your next upgrade cycle. You're better off drawing a line under those problems and moving on with your life.

    Yeah values like earning a fucking living. What percentage of people actually earn money for developing in OSS as opposed tech support and consulting because of how absymal most OSS projects are.

    "why the fuck are you constantly telling me to use your broken shit?!"

    One million times this, for banks that expect me to have windows for internet banking, people expecting me to open files in .doc or .wmv format, and etc. They can all go to hell IMHO. You better have something much important and absolutely no competition to force me to open a windows VM.

  • Notification Spam Recipient

    To be honest you're better off not opening .doc files. You'll live a longer happier life for it. .wmv files are usually porn though. They're for quiet time at home.

  • @fbmac said:

    Is Libreoffice so broken now that it can't even open .doc?

  • @fbmac said:

    OMG it's like you took my words and... somehow twisted them around!? YOU ARE A MASTER OF RHETORIC!

    (Also, .wmv? Seriously? What decade are you posting this from?)

    @fbmac said:

    I edit video.

  • There were some formatting issues last time I had to open a word document. It was a .docx, dont know if .doc is supposed to be any better.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    I edit video.

    I hope your videos won't require some specific OS to be viewed.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    If the LinuxINSERT_THING_HERE community would just stop preaching about how great LinuxINSERT_THING_HERE is and telling people to switch to it

    then that would probably mean advertising companies wouldn't make any money and there would be no such thing as "word of mouth".

  • The point is that all open source software for editing videos is absolute shit.

  • I wouldn't be using Linux if I had to edit a lot of videos. For something stupid simple I would try to get around with whatever tool I can get first. There is a lot of things that are crappy on Linux, and a lot that is crappy in Windows. I spend much more time on the command line.

    That was why I put a VIM plugin interface as a hard-requirement for our new forum requirements wiki. I think we'll take a bit longer to make the switch, but its worth it.

  • @fbmac said:

    I'm honestly trying to comprend what you're saying here but it just appears too retarded at first glance for me to even...

    I think this may be the best troll I've ever seen.

    A big percentage of Linux's kernel devs are actually paid developers (even some by MS).
    All the employees of Red-Hat are paid, also Ubuntu ones.
    All the Intel devs that produce their GPLed drivers.
    All the WordPress devs

    I could think of others but, I have better things to do.

    unless you back that up with stats I'm just going to dismiss it

    I can't help but notice that isn't stats but rather a fluff piece. It is nice to see my belief that no one sane would work on Linux unless they're forced by their day job.

    All three are abysmal shit.

    Yeah, why should people recommend something they like and find useful? Absurd! Also, no you wouldn't.

  • @boomzilla said:

    Also, no you wouldn't.

    Well it's pretty hypothetical, since Linux users can't stop motoring their mouths about how great it (and they) are.

    Nevertheless, here's a Venn diagram of people who know you and people who believe you would get along with Linux People: Oo

    I'm not a mind reader and I don't know if you know what a Venn diagram is, so I'll put it your native language: LIAR

    Don't worry as his alter ego I can fill the gap.
