  • Hey, YouTube! Remember that playlist I visit about once a week-- using the same URL every time? Yeah, the one that's sorted by Most Recent, so I know when a new episode is posted?

    Can you go ahead and completely randomize that shit for me? Thanks.

    Did it reverse the order? Nope, those episodes aren't their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

    Is it sorted by episode length? Nope.

    Is it sorted by episode date in a different way? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS WHO NEEDS TO SEE DATE POSTED RIGHT ON A LIST UR DOING IT WRONG!!!!

    Is it sorted by most plays? Most favourited? Most censored expletives? Again, who knows! Yay for "clean" interfaeces with hidden information.

  • Playlists have no sorting. The videos are in the order the creator of the playlist put them in.. If you didn't create that playlist, you're not in control of the order. Sorry.

    There's no bug here, or at least no evidence of a bug here.

    The playlist has been-- since Screen Junkies created it-- and for the 2+ years I've been visiting the same playlist-- in the order of "most recent on top".

    Since I highly doubt the decided on a sort order of "Go fuck yourself", I blame YouTube.

    Your evidence to the contrary is...?

  • I had no idea that screen existed. Well sheet. That'll save me time next time I'm screwing with playlists.

    How do you know the order wasn't changed by "Screen Junkies"? It's not your playlist. You don't control it. Sorry, again.

  • Basically, I gave all the dwarves in that fort the nickname @accalia and embarked in a really evil area where hunting just makes zombie birbs and then they murder you back.

    The AI is written in Ruby. How it works is probably a lot more interesting than the video.

  • Ok, that's what you did.

    Now, would you mind elaborating on the why?

    Wow, how did you design a QR code that looks like a lion?,?

    1. Why do you have a toilet sign on your profile?

    2. it's not a lion

    3. Russ Cox made it

  • YouTube never changes the order of playlists, it's 100% controlled by the owner of the playlist. Stop blaming the wrong thing.

    EDIT: Though really I can understand why you assumed it was YouTube. The way they handle things is atrocious. Recently my video volume slider has been changing itself randomly, and everyone else I talk to has the same issue. I don't think anyone at YouTube has any idea what a video even is.

    Discoursistency has nothing on TubeConsistency.

    Oh. Nobody is going to defend YouTube's UI/UX design, because it is atrociously awful. (Like most other Google products.)

    But they're not to blame for the playlist changing.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    But they're not to blame for the playlist changing.

    What do you think is more likely?

    1. A video producer, who has an extreme vested interest in people having easy access to the LATEST video, randomly shuffles their playlist for literally no reason, making it impossible to see a Latest Video?
    2. YouTube fucked around with a setting somewhere and fucked up a playlist?

    1. PEBKAC
    2. :trolleybus:

  • @Lorne_Kates said:

    Yay a fun game!

    @Lorne_Kates said:

    1) A video producer, who has an extreme vested interest in people having easy access to the LATEST video,

    How do you know that is true?

    YouTube already provides lots of easy ways to find the LATEST video in a channel. For example, you could hit the "Videos" tab and then click whichever one is on top. You could even bookmark that page instead of the playlist. It's like amazing super-magic!

    @Lorne_Kates said:

    @Lorne_Kates said:

    It's not impossible; as I just stated, it's really easy to find a channel's LATEST video (or wait, I guess Latest Video?) without using a playlist at all.

    @Lorne_Kates said:

    2) YouTube fucked around with a setting somewhere and fucked up a playlist?

    While I admit "YouTube done fucked up" is pretty likely, I think I'm still going to have to go with number 1 here.

  • area_deu

    A lot of content producers neglect keeping their playlists tidy.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    Shoulder aliens. (aka: logic). If your business model is "lots of people need to watch our latest video in order for us to make ad revenue"...

    Screen Junkies has multiple shows. If I just went to Latest Video, it wouldn't always show me the latest video for the show I'm looking for. Maybe there is a new Honest Trailer, but it's been pushed off the Latest Page. Maybe there isn't a latest Honest Trailer. I would know if I checked their playlist.

    Which I have bookmarked.

    Which has had the latest video on top for years now.

    @blakeyrat said:

    AFAIK, Screen Junkies is the channel. The same group of people do multiple shows. I'm assuming there's a reason to keep it all under one channel-- cross promotion, better metrics, whatever?

    Possibly? That's not the normal practice. I assume they're in an MCN (multi-channel network), right? They have enough subscribers to be.

    It could be they just started doing it that way before they knew how YouTube "worked", and didn't feel is necessary to switch to multiple channels later. Or it became too labor intensive. Or if it's recent, they started when the whole bullshit Google+ thing was going on and YouTube made it nearly impossible to even have multiple channels belonging to one person because fuck Google I'm still mad about that.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    I agree with what @blakeyrat just said.

  • I will live for a million year and never understand why ANYBODY at Google or YouTube thought the user -> channel relationship was a 1 -> 1 instead of a many -> many. A MILLION YEARS.

  • If you make a Google+ page, you can have multiple people manage it and have a YouTube channel for it.

  • If you say so. The UI for Google+ is so goddamned confusing, I have no idea how any of those things relate or how you'd go about setting that up.

  • @blakeyrat said:

    I have never had any issue with Google+ ever. I have multiple Pages/Channels associated with my Google account and I can access them easily or even log into them directly without logging into my personal account. The way it is set up is great and works well for both businesses and individuals alike. I think people complain because they don't take the time to understand the tools available to them.

    Also, when you create a page and give it a password, it effectively becomes a full-fledged Google account that belongs to you. All Google accounts get 15GB of free Drive storage...

    What does Google pay you for posting bullshit like this?

    Possibly because the usability is complete shit.

  • area_deu

    I already have free cloud storage from like 5 other providers.

    Like most people on here probably do.

  • If people can like Apple for no discernable reason, I can like Google for no discernable reason. Really though, I've never had any issues with anything Google has done (except YouTube, of course). The Google+ integration was seamless for me and I didn't even notice when it happened - it's a shame they are now backpedalling.

  • Back, demon!

  • @LB_ said:

    My sister likes Apple because they sold her a $3000 macbook that she uses as a web browser and never installs security updates on.

    I like Google because they sold me a $250 dhromebook that is a web browser that starts up in like one second from complete power down. Also, it has two copies of the OS and updates install on the non-active copy, so it can just reboot to the other copy of the OS instead of having to actually do things that might take more than one second during a reboot.

    Also because they provide me with free email, photo, document, video, (and so on) hosting and all they want in return is for a machine learning algorithm to figure out what searches are relevant to me. It's a win-win for everyone involved!

    Also, Google+ is quite nice.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

  • Yep, I'm just too lazy to explain all that to people, so I go with the I-hate-Apple explanation instead.
