XBOX Live WTF <!--Title Is Invalid-->

  • I've been online for about an hour after a boot and update; at this point I'm 3/4 the way through a co-op online session (2nd of the night) on a mission on an Xbox 360 (game unimportant). All of a sudden I'm "disconnected". I return to the home screen and get the "you must update or no more live for you" message.

:WTF: Microsoft. I JUST updated. Can't you at least let me finish my session?

  • Who are you to question Microsoft?

The person with many numbers in his/her screen name.

Filed Under: I thought that was obvious

Grrr! The “my update is more important than your use of the system” mentality is really annoying.

  • To be fair, sometimes it can be (although that's a rather rare case)

One would hope for that, yes. :sob:

  • Could it be the classic "OH SHIT, we just released a completely broken update, quick, release another one to fix it"?

I still remember when Google accidentally released their "dogfood" version of the YouTube app in the play store as an update. I kept it for weeks.

Can't click the non-existent "Cancel" button. Pressing Escape is the same as pressing Enter. This is a Modal window, which means I can see the Netflix movie still playing in the gray transparent background.
Oh, and if you interact in any way with this "Dialog" box, it automatically starts downloading and installing whatever updates it talks about, without confirmation that you want to do it or not. Oh, and rebooting (either via CAD or unplugging) doesn't get rid of it either, pops right back up as soon as you log on.

My only saving grace is that I force updates to never install automatically via Group Policy, but apparently that doesn't preclude this message from showing up. So, I just have to hit the button, ignore the "You can't install updates at this time" error, and go back to what I was doing.
    Every hour.
