Funny log line from our CI

This one always makes me laugh:
15:23:53 It looks like I'm on the cloud instance. I'll just kill the orphans. Have a nice day! 15:23:53 15:23:53 sudo -n kill 9271 9833 9855 13887 14477 16058 16406 16432 17417 18691 21744 24393 24922 25265 25365 26319 26629 28159 28665 28697 28969 29317 29664 30754 32619

Poor Cosette!

A programmer with a sense of humour, you should see some of my messages.

Mine, anonymong'd..
general_app/specific_app.c: syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "Finishing up. Killing children...");`
general_app/specific_app.c:260: syslog(LOG_INFO, "Unexpectedly no longer the parent of %d: %s", abs(*child), buffer);
[...}else{....] general_app/specific_app.c:262: syslog(LOG_DEBUG, "%d predictably died: %s", abs(*child), buffer);
redirection/redirection.c: syslog(child_failed?LOG_INFO:LOG_ERR, "No children forked. Check [webserver]redirects?");
resource_allocator/allocator_common.c: syslog(LOG_INFO, "[other program] %d indeterminate state - killing it off. Any last words...?", w->cSimClient_pid);
Not mine, still anonymong'd:
steve/steve.c: printf("You force is weak with you. You can not kill Steve. He lives on...\n\n");
Now, whether the actual name of this program is named after someone, or the acronym just happens to be spelled the same as a name I'm not sure.
I'd like to hope it's the latter.

Then post them.
My favourite of recent years:
Very broken. Much fixing. Such improvement. Wow.
One of my colleagues fell about laughing when he code-reviewed that one.
The content of the commit was pretty boring; removing an API that was thoroughly busted because of changes elsewhere and stopping things like catch-log-and-reraise exception handling.
-

In a flash of inspiration, I've just realised it's likely much, much worse....
It's actually a portmanteau of two names. Of two developers here.
Both of whom contributed code.
For example, if they were called Graham and David, they could come up with a program calledgravid
. Now clearly,gravid
isn't a name, it's a 'medical condition'.
Or Gloria and Nichole could write something calledglorihole
which, again, isn't a name, but the connotations are probably best left unexplained to the uninitiated..
But you get the idea.
And if that isn't clickbait to encourage despoilering, I've no idea what is...

For the sake of integrity I will "describe" one in particular, but I don't have access to the logs or code to show it here.
In essence it was a series of status log messages in a "well documented" Class that was responsible for loading a configuration file - part of a bespoke framework. It started with a simple ...configuration file not found..." progressed to "...expected default not found either..." It then escalated to "...unable to guess location of configuration file.." before expiring with an Exception stating ...you can lead a horse to water but........."
The last comment being a reference to the fact that the importance of the name and location of the configuration file was "well documented" but had obviously been ignored.
And yes, I do consider and code / test for some very unhappy paths. I doubt anybody will see the final message, but at least it will be there for when it's needed.

Shaun and Amit?
Curt and Brant?
Knox and Bob?
-
Paul and Enis?
Anne and Jamal?
Dora and Truong?
Felix and Horatio?

I used to see...
On Error Goto Hell:
In the VB6 programs I supported ten years ago.
-
Funny. No to all of those; it was, unfortunately, rather more mundane.

It's a common anti-pattern. Programming in VB6 generally has that effect.
-
What? Like some sort of default reset?
-
More along the lines of wanting to tell the computer to go to hell.
-
SOMEBODY SET UP US THE BOMB!! is a pretty decent general-purpose "something went wrong" log statement. I'm sure many maintainers of my old apps and tools have enjoyed that one.

Spoilers in Edge are even more fubared than I thought
-
nah. that's what Chrome does too.
-
Spoilers Are Broken In Edge Thread is that way:
-
At least you can see there is a spoiler there
-
hmm... that's a point.
