Suggestion that I buy something I already bought
-
Got this today from Amazon:
One problem: on my previous visit, less than two weeks earlier, I had already bought that very same book.
Would you call that a WTF? (Maybe they think I need a second copy or something?)
-
Is it a duplicate listing? Sometimes editions are listed separately for whatever reason.
-
Would you call that a WTF?
Yes, that kind of (badly) targeted advertising has been discussed here previously. It was a WTF then, and it still is.
-

There are multiple listings with varying prices and sellers. You'd think they'd have a way of filtering that. Otherwise I could forsee this:
Customer buys Book A.
Next week: based on your recent purchase, allow us to recommend:
Book A

Book C

Oh yay, that makes me TRWTF along the same lines. And I thought the weekend/holiday is why this topic seemed to be mostly ignored. :(

Oops, implying that you are TRWTF was not my intention. Some topics come up repeatedly; this is one that hasn't come up often, to my recollection, but it has come up before.
My favorite is when you buy something that you only buy once every few years (e.g., a dishwasher, or a set of tires), but you wind up being bombarded by ads for more of the same.

implying
I didn't infer it from you, kind of a self-assessment. Don't beat yourself up. ;-)

Every time I buy something online, that item becomes the only thing I get ads for over the next however long it is until I buy something else.
The one thing it does do is that if I searched for prices on something I would like to buy but then didn't follow through, they haunt my every step begging me to pull the trigger and buy.

Even offline. If I buy, say, a vacuum cleaner at Sears, Sears decides that I like vacuum cleaners and sends me ads for them. Marketers, get a clue. If I buy Foo brand cereal, yeah, I'm likely to buy cereal again in a week or so. Maybe I'll by Foo again, but I'm more likely to buy Bar for variety. If I buy a new vacuum, another vacuum is the thing I'm least likely to buy again in the near future.

I don't know why they don't capitalize the purchase by advertising parts and services associated with the product.
For example, I buy a vacuum. Advertise the filters for it.
I buy stain remover for carpets. Advertise a carpet cleaning service, for when that shit doesn't work, because it won't, because fucking stain removers never work....

Yeah. I know for a fact I posted a thread wherein I dissected every single recommendation they gave me on the homepage.
