So it's less creepy when you're closer to her? I'll remember that for next time.

  • @Bort said:

So it's less creepy when you're closer to her?

People are more comfortable if I'm following her closely, because I'm her father.

But if I come around a corner from a distance, I can feel the tension.

People are weird in what they choose to ignore.

Anyone know what the SJW / Progressive consensus is on trans-racial people like Dozeal? I've read some scolding pieces (though not from that angle) on considering it to be the same category as trans-sexual, but none of them sound convincing. They come across as someone defending something as a knee jerk but not as a thought out thing.

I, for one, haven't come up with a good argument as to why it should be treated differently.

Neither have I, but it certainly feels like they are different. I think there is mileage in the argument that apart from the obvious stuff like skin colour, racial differences are purely societal, but when you get right down to it most gender differences are too.

  • @Jaloopa said:

Right...this seems to be what the arguments boil down to, which is to say: not really arguments. I'm sure at least @Gaska would back me up in saying they aren't rational.

  • kills Dumbledore

I'm ahead of most then, at least I admit my discomfort isn't founded on solid arguments.

  • On a different note, I'm playing cities: skylines.

    I finally unlock university.

Put it and surround it with high density apartments (I thought dorms for the uni), then put a tourist spot in the center.
Rich people start visiting the tourist spot, and without a police department nearby, the only spot with crime is the tourist spot in the middle.

    Awesome.

I haven't read any posts in this topic (including yours, except for what I quoted), so I can't say anything really. But because post can't be empty, I'll use the excuse that you pinged me to ask a rhetorical question to you all - does it really matter if arguments are rational? Or does it matter if there are any arguments at all? It's all about human interaction, right? We don't need arguments in our arguments to spend some time together, talking to each other.

I'd say we don't even need other people to have a pleasant chat, though that might seem a little far-fetched for some of you.

  • @Gaska said:

People are probably going to be angry about this one way or the other. If people want me to condemn this action as Wrong when I'm supposed to applaud some other (to me) equivalent action, then to me it matters if there are arguments.

  • He didn't do anything illegal and they got him, so I'm going to protest by doing something illegal.

You're right. There's no need to think rationally about this.

  • At least transrace is only slightly insane. I'm sure @xaade already knows about transablism.

  • Brings whole new meaning to "I believe I can fly..... I believe I can touch the sky..."

What? You didn't say anything about ablism stopping at human ability.

I'm seriously disenfranchised here, having to walk about on the ground.

I imagine everyone's consensus in THIS case is that she's a freaking nutbag faking hate crimes and other shit in an attempt to gain legitimacy in her blackness, and should probably be in jail for wasting everyone's time.

I can hardly be considered an "SJW", I don't give enough shits to warrior for justice. I'm not sure how "Progressive" fits into any of it since that generally refers to being pro-government keeping down the rich man and propping up the poor, which I don't think has any bearing on this? I suppose you can count me as "Progressive" if that means someone that thinks nobody should be in charge of how everyone else wants to run their lives, but that's not even remotely close to anyone's definition of Progressive. So, here is how I, being more or less neutral to all that other crap, feel about the situation...

If a non-schizo (ie, not batshit crazy like the lady in the OP) white person wants to be black, then whatever floats their boat. I don't think it should count for filling out things like scholarships targeted to minorities or such. But for social/job concerns, you're not supposed to be discriminated against by race anyway, so what difference does it make what color some dumbass thinks they are? If anyone was going to be pissed about this sort of thing, I'd think it'd be the minorities that'd be upset that they're having their situation co-opted midlife by someone that didn't have to live through the shit and whom could change back at any moment and not have to deal with it. Unless I guess we start doing skin graft operations to make the decision permanent?

Also, how has no one linked Dave Chappelle's Black White Supremacist skit yet?

or maybe they have and discosearch fails.

yes, i amended my line to be more specific on that portion because it was kind of a shot out of nowhere without proper definitions there. I wasn't attempting to mold the definition of progressive to include me, just making a bad segue from boomzilla's question to my answer.

Just to bring the story full circle, this woman once sued for discrimination because she was too white

The word is very slippery and stuff like this gets called "Progressive" all the time whether you want to believe it or not.

    @darkmatter said:

Yeah, I think we're in agreement here. Though...why shouldn't a crazy person be trans-whatever too? If you're going to exclude the mentally ill, you're probably excluding most of the people who would want to do this sort of thing. One could ask if the wrong-skin/gender/whatever is the cause or the symptom of the illness.

She's pretending to be black to benefit. So she's being black for black privileges.

Would people be as disgusted if someone were pretending to be white for white privileges?

No, they'd just point to white privileges and say those privileges are not just.

At least from the rhetoric, the only time I've ever heard them caring about the economy is when they wanted to give banks a ton of money.

Other than the whole penis/vagina thing.

i will agree that if gender stereotypes werent so pervasive, and there were more representations of gender neutral/gay ideals, maybe some of these people would be more likely to identify as "themselves" rather than some gender.

But there is still the penis/vagina thing. Those arent social constructs.
