Another Pedantry :badger:?

    Continuing the discussion from SourceForge takes over SF (San Francisco? Science Fiction? Socialistik Folkepartie? Define your acronyms people!) accounts; releases adware-laced installers:

    Then I suggest you re-read the thread; plenty of justification has already been given.

    Okay, re-reading then:

    [snip]

    Okay. I know it's really, really, really, REALLYYYYY rare. And that's it - you still haven't shown how rarity influences desirability in any rational way.

    So where is your justification? Did I skip some hidden posts or something?

    start of a chain of wonderfully pedantic posts if you ask me

  • Apparently, it takes extreme pedantry to realize some obvious things don't actually make that much sense.

  • SockDev

    honestly it reads as if the two of you were having two entirely different arguments (you trying to ask why gold is desired (answer: fuck if i know but i'll happily sell it to you at a nice markup), and @raceproUK trying to show you why gold is valued (answer: supply/demand economics))

  • SockDev

    Seriously? That would explain why it kept going so long…

  • SockDev

    @RaceProUK said:

    Seriously?

    that's how it reads to me.

    i might be wrong of course...

  • @accalia said:

    It did seem that way.

  • SockDev

    @loopback0 said:

    nice pedantry from both sides. ;-)

  • SockDev

    If it earns me a second pendantry :badger:, then I won't be jealous of you having two anymore. And that would be a good thing :laughing:

  • I don't know - there's arguing, and both of them seemingly repeating themselves, but no real pedantry. There's not a post I could slap a pedantry :triangular_flag_on_post: on.

  • SockDev

    i picked the most dickweedish of the posts in the chains to flag myself.

  • SockDev

    Out of interest, which of mine did you flag?

  • @accalia said:

    I felt like that too. Most of my posts are actually trying to point that out to @RaceProUK.

  • Pedantry requires attention to details, and they both missed the detail of what the other one was even arguing about.

  • SockDev

    what? you're saying that that was whoosh?

    i call bullshit on that.

    :laughing:

  • @accalia said:

    what? you're saying that that was whoosh?

    I did not say that.

    @accalia said:

    i call bullshit on that.

    Me too. I didn't say it.

  • SockDev

    ... i was clearly laughing there wasn't i? i mean i didn't accidentally type :tangerine: did i?

    :-P

  • I was making it clear before someone accused me of bullying or attempted some sort of counter-flag.

  • SockDev

    ... :facepalm:

    just...... :headdesk:

    Unless you feel she got a :badger: you should have gotten, I think you mean envious:
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/envy:

    Envy and jealousy are very close in meaning. Envy denotes a longing to possess something awarded to or achieved by another: to feel envy when a friend inherits a fortune. Jealousy, on the other hand, denotes a feeling of resentment that another has gained something that one more rightfully deserves: to feel jealousy when a coworker receives a promotion.

    :badger: granted - abarker

  • :checkered_flag:

  • SockDev

    But language is defined by usage, and jealous is frequently used to mean the same as envious, so I'd argue that my usage of the word jealous is correct :stuck_out_tongue:

  • If language is defined by usage, then urblydjfrbdygyhfjcgkhrydkgdyvffg is valid word because I just said it.

  • Urblydjfrbdygyhfjcgkhrydkgdyvffg.

  • who are you calling that?

    Try telling that to the Académie française, Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, Academy of the Asturian Language, Nederlandse Taalunie, Emakeele Seltsi keeletoimkond, Κέντρον Ελληνικής Γλώσσας, Foras na Gaeilge, Одбор за стандардизацију српског језика, etc.

    Seems like a perfectly cromulent word to me.

  • kills Dumbledore

    that begs the question, when will Cromulent make it into the OED?

    Doesn't sound like any of those speak English so they don't really matter.

    I didn't think :badger:s were being given out for quoting dictionary definitions? :stuck_out_tongue:

    It wasn't just a dictionary definition. ;) Gotta work those fine lines.

    Silly other languages.

    Here in Germany, you don't need a permit to combine two words into a new one.

  • @Jarry said:

    Bloguero

    Not a big deal, considering how often American media talk about "blogosphere"...

    @Jarry said:

    euroescepticismo

    A valid word even if it's not in dictionary, due to latin word formation rules.

    @Jarry said:

    That, however, is pure stupidity.

    German language is like Minecraft - you combine boots and skis and get ice skates.

    I think Spiny is :custard: that a topic essentially created to get himher a :Badger: ended up getting one for someone else instead ;)

  • Norman being that famous girl's name? :laughing:

    Amended either way.

    And in French shoes become socks by changing gender.
