There is no longer a "daily limit" pop-up
-
I used to get an error message when trying to do stuff (such as liking) once too often.
We have a daily limit on how many times that action can be taken. Please wait 23 hours before trying again.
Apparently, this error message is no longer since the update to Beta 9. My console shows a "429 (Too Many Requests)", but apart from that, nothing happens.
-
First the cross-post popup, now this.
I know Jeff likes to remove elements, but this is getting silly.
-
So for a normal user that doesn't have the console open, it just fails silently??? That's... That's... That's the worst possible way for software to behave.
-

Yes indeed. It would seem like none of the usual pop-up messages are working anymore.
-
it just fails silently
Has always been that way with administrator actions that have cooldowns (like closing and opening, these share a cooldown).
Welcome to my world.
-
-
So... do we have to start adding our own messages now, too, if we want to use the damned thing?
Vote of no confidence indeed.
-
Edit: That oneboxed, then when baked it de-oneboxed
Editit: And now it's oneboxed again
-
Have you repro'd there?
-
That's gonna be fun... what's the limit there?
We need a likes topic over there...
-
We could just use a PM ...
-
Have you repro'd there?
In order to repro, I'd need to spam… something, and I'm not interested in doing that and annoying people
-
Yes, I had that in mind, but I chose to troll instead.
And yes, still want to know the limit.
-
Have you repro'd there?
Turns out there's no need:
-
-
-
Just a thought that a "Likes" like thread could've been used to test and catch that...
-
Oh screw you, @RaceProUK, my bug report got closed as a dupe of yours that you posted six or so hours later

Why did this get closed before a patch is on GitHub? Am I misunderstanding how Discourse is used for bug tracking again?
I'm just asking in case any of you understand this shit. I'll PM sam on meta.d otherwise.

Am I misunderstanding how Discourse is used for bug tracking again?
Looks like a mistake to me. The trout dude was like "I've just fixed a related bug, I'll look at this one" and sam went "fixed a bug? Better close the bug then"
-
Yeah, probably. I'll PM him.
-
Is i just me or is the 'unread posts' blue circle even less dependant than usual? Topics keep going to the top of latest, but I get no blue circle. (and there are unread posts when I enter the topic).
-
Haven't noticed that myself. I just keep getting the update bar when there are no updates after leaving a topic at times. Don't think I ever missed a post though.
-
Have you checked the topics are still marked as Tracking?
-
If the last post is edited, the thread is counted as updated even if there are no unread posts
-
Ding ding ding. Correct you are. Didn't topics use to get auto tracked when you'd read them? I've never had to change that myself, but now it seems that shit loads of topics are regular instead of tracking...😣
all conversations less than two days old are considered new, and any conversation you've participated in (replied to, created, or read for an extended period) will automatically be tracked.
What's the discofinition of 'extended period'?
-
Didn't topics use to get auto tracked when you'd read them?
They do. When Discourse decides you read them. How does it decide that? Fuck knows!
Because I know it's not only if you read all the posts in the topic. That would be far too sensible.
-
-
What's the discofinition of 'extended period'?
You can set this period in your preferences.
-
How about "if I read all the posts"? Would that make sense? Or is it just me?
-
I like "if I've started reading". The defaults used to piss me off when there was a short OP that took well under 2 minutes to read, but it looked likely to generate an interesting conversation.
-
Yeah, I pulled down mine to 30 seconds now. I'll usually stay long enough to trigger it if it looks like an interesting topic. And it's far better to have to switch to
Muted
later than to turn on tracking, IMHO. I did miss updates on a few topics by forgetting to set tracking already.

Mine's set to immediately. It's quite handy.
