It works.
Anyone have a notification sound recommendation? I don't think I can rip off the one from Slack.

notification sound
It's CC0 so you can use it without any copyright woes.
These might be preferable (still CC0 though): http://freesound.org/people/InfiniteLifespan/sounds/266455/ http://freesound.org/people/TheGertz/sounds/235911/

#2 - too much pure tone
#3 - "too depressing" according to my critical brother
This is good - http://freesound.org/people/Moistgoatman/sounds/268008/

Oh well, here's a whole load more:
That last one should keep you busy, it says there are 279 button sounds...
-
-
It's a bit long, don't you think? Can you make a short fragment with just the highlights?
-
-
That would seem to be a very large organ pipe?
-
*cue muttering about how I could've made a small tray application that would do this, even with puny amounts of working code I have, ages ago but never thought of it*
What browsers does this work in, btw? I know Chrome has support for that, does FF have it as well? IE?
-
Chrome, Firefox, Safari on Mac (but no icon).

My biggest complain is that HTML5 notifications are useless for mobile devices. Which is, you know, the main place where people want to get notifications.
-
If your dumb browser notification ever minimizes a video game I'm playing, I will murder you. (I don't care if it's Chrome or Firefox's bug.)
-
nope, window.focus() only when you click it
-
Bet your life?
-
I'm assuming it will be an opt-in setting. Otherwise I agree with the murder part.
-
The first time you visit, Chrome pops up a bar which says something like "Allow $site__name to access desktop notifications". Click Deny, et voila, no desktop notifications.
-
until Chrome decides they're probably safe enough and removes the whitelist/blacklist stuff.... they've done it befor... oh wait no, i tell a lie. that was Firefox that did that to me with my allow site to run JS.... and flash.... and silverlight...

@PJH desktop notifications v1 in next update
-
Oh joy. I take it this other feature, then, is not longer experimental and has been fully implemented (or, pessimistically, silently dropped):
-
WHAT? I'm using that! I don't want system notifications, but the favicon thing is useful!
-
The favicon thing is actually completely separate and hasn't been touched. I think the code diff was entirely positive.
Also, I'm pretty sure there are bugs with the primary tab tracking. I just don't trust that code. (Desktop notifications are only generated by the last tab on the same site you looked at.)
-
I just don't trust that code.
Business as usual, I see...
Also, I'm pretty sure there are bugs with the primary tab tracking.
Ever thought of, I dunno, testing this thing? Or delegating testing to someone who's not the end user?
-
Oh, I tested it. This is original code. I don't trust the code I just wrote. I think there's something wrong. I just don't know what it is. I can't write a failing test case for a hunch.

Eww. Not that you're using them (well, that too), but the idea in general.
