Duplicate post check spans threads/PMs: what the actual?
-
So I post this in the @shadowmod testing thread:
@RaceProUK said:@shadowmod trust
And it doesn't respond because it's on cooldown/is buggy/is pining for the fjords. So I decide to send it as a PM instead, to beat the cooldown.…and Discourse tells me to fuck off because the body is too similar to what I posted in a public thread.
[s]Seriously, @codinghorror. Who the fuck thought that was a good fucking idea?[/s]
Thinking about it, it is a pretty esoteric use case…
And, as a bonus, finding a bug when posting a bug:
You see that bit with 'Bug' in it? THAT'S A CATEGORY. IT IS SELECTED.

I propose we just make it so that you can close the PM chain as duplicate due to similar content, in proper SO style.

And there lies the problem.No other forum software ever since the Dawn of Man has treated PMs like normal forum threads with fancy flags. Also, no other forum software ever since the Dawn of Man dupe-checks posts across threads.

Invite TL4+ and they probably can. Haven't tried it out though.

Yeah. I wasn't saying I agreed, just that's how it works.
That said, it's not like any forum software is made with the use case of PMing the same 2 words to a bot in mind. It's just that the others don't get in the way.

What's worse, they don't dupe check the canned replies!!!
