ORA-01502: DBA, please pick up my divots because I'm too dumb to
-
So, I had a VARCHAR2(4000) column in my database overflow (the data in it's a , but I'll save that for later). I go and ask my DBA to ALTER TABLE the column to a CLOB; once I purge the column-under-remodeling of the (truncated) data, that goes off without a hitch...until I go to write to it again and get ORA-01502. Apparently, that ALTER TABLE invalidated all the indexes on that table, including the primary key -- which made reading or writing the table impossible from that point on, and you then have to tell Oracle to rebuild the index with an ALTER INDEX.
If you knew enough to spit out this error, Oracle, why couldn't you have rebuilt the index on your own and saved me and my DBA all this frustration?

because that needs a flip off from Patrick Stewart.
it could use one from Sean Connery but GIS fails me.

Probably it doesn't do it right away because you may go and do other actions that invalidate resources. And rebuilding indexes is expensive.
As to why it doesn't remind you at any point?

...... i need to go watch some movies now.........
because....... yep.

You do know that he was the original James Bond, right?

You do know that he was the original James Bond, right?
Uh, no. Nowhere near.Unless you really want to get pedantic. In which case it's even further away.
-
You do know that he was the original James Bond, right?
In the movies, yes. However, Bond was played earlier by Bob Holness for radio. And before that, there was a US feature-length TV programme with Barry Nelson as James 'Jimmy' Bond. Though that last one doesn't really count, as they changed Bond into an Amurkn.Edit: Hanzo'd. Just. Kinda.

The WTF here is Oracle but an index and a LOB index are different things. I'm not sure the result should be so crazy but that's Oracle.
Probably Hanzo but reading is a barrier to posting
