You never fire bows, and firing arrows involves actual flames intended to burn the enemy to the ground.
The appropriate terms are shooting or loosing.

I definitely agree on the fun. And you quickly find out there's quite a lot of power in a handbow.

And yet in English we do historically refer to 'firing an arrow', in the non-ignited sense and other artillery has the same verb attached.
And we know how to do the archery thing in this country. We won more than one battle solely on archery skills. Longbow vs crossbow = bad day for Frenchmen with crossbows.

i don't know how correct it is, but the way i've heard it is "firing an arrow" refers to a person who is not the observer loosing an arrow at a target, where if the observer is the actor i see the term shooting or loosing used...
might not be correct but it is a definite distinction i have seen in my library collection.

Compare to 'firing a gun'. Same distinction - slightly different distinction in terms of what the actor is doing with the weapon since the act of triggering the weapon is slightly different to the overall action of sighting, aiming, letting slip the ammunition of war.

hmm... now that you mention it yes i have seen the same thing there.... "firing" when applied to guns does tend to be applied when the person with the gun is not the observer. "shooting" tends to be the word used when the observer is the one with the gun....
at least in my experience.

Have done. 30-some years ago, I had ambitions to shoot competitively, but never did. Going off to university kind of got in the way.

Oh, I did, and I was being partially facetious. The guy's clearly good. I've just seen too many videos of tacticool gun "schools" releasing videos that should be musically accompanied by Yakety Sax--this video reminded me of those.
Oh, look, I can run at a wall, jump off it while grabbing an arrow, and shoot at a target. Sounds like a real-world useful skill!

Well, one company tried to come up with a 1911 replacement, called it the 2011... Basically a double barreled (side by side) 1911 with 2 triggers.

I don't have a problem with Glocks. But I'm not convinced they're a technological improvement.
If you look at handgun design before JMB came along, things were getting fairly complex. He invented a few things that drastically improved, for example, the manufacture of them, as well as making them work smoothly.

Yeah. Apparently their .40's and 10mm's are "known" to blow up. The only destroyed pistol I've ever seen in person was a .40-caliber Glock.

One of the things I fired was actually a 1911. The other was a Ruger, and I was offered the chance to play with an AR-15 but I was too chicken.
I'll be fine in the event of a zombie apocalypse, I was getting headshots from 25ft.

Which is why I went with the Deagle instead of a Glock or similar. Because Brits can troll, we just are very selective about it.The AR-15 is my favorite to shoot with. It just feels so right in your hands.
