Paddington Bear film given PG rating.
The BBFC said it had initially warned of mild sex references and mild bad language in the film, out on Friday. After a request from the film’s distributor it changed that to innuendo and infrequent mild bad language.

Imitable Behaviour
There are infrequent scenes of dangerous behaviour, including Paddington hiding from a villain inside a refrigerator and riding on a skateboard while holding on to a bus, as well as a brief scene of a boy strapping fireworks to his shoes.
Threat
There are occasional sequences of mild threat when Paddington is chased by the villain who threatens to kill and stuff him, as well as a brief sequence in which Paddington lies unconscious on a table while a taxidermist prepares their tools nearby. There is also a short scene in a jungle when Paddington and his family run for shelter during an earthquake with trees falling around them.
Sex
There is some mild innuendo, including a comic sequence in which a man disguised as a woman is flirted with by another man.
Language
There is a single mumbled use of 'bloody'.
Edit: Yay for consistent markdown ...

I know standards change, but come *on*! Why is this part of why the film is a PG? All the times Bugs Bunny cross-dressed and put the moves on Elmer Fudd are certified U. And that wasn't just cross-dressing, it was inter-species; it more-or-less painted Fudd as a furry! And 'bloody' as profanity is about as nasty as threatening to gently poke someone in the shoulder.

Also this.

You made me visit the Daily Mail website.
Such an action is an atrocity of biblical proportions!Anyway, I remember how brutal those cartoons were, especially Tom & Jerry. And yet, I never felt the need to imitate anything in them. But then I was brought up by two loving parents who didn't rely on TV and movies to do their job for them :P

Dude. Look at your avatar.

also, you have a birdman saying "bleeping" as your avatar. not sure you have a leg to stand on if you're trying to make the point my shoulder alien thinks you are.

I always thought Paddington WAS a stuffed bear.

Please be quiet and don't disturb it.

HOW IS THAT BAD FOR KIDS. Are kids' movies now supposed to not contain any danger to the main characters? What are they supposed to be about, then?

Anyway, I remember how brutal those cartoons were, especially Tom & Jerry.
Or even downright disturbing.

No, that's bad parenting, since the parents haven't done their job, making sure the kid understands what is dangerous and what isn't.

OK, that particular episode is definitely not for children... it's depressing just reading the plot summary.
-
I doubt anything like that will ever get released these days.
-
I don't see the US producing something like that. But it wasn't from the US in the first place.
I loved the show way back when, although probably a lot of the topics went over my head. I may well first have seen it on original release; I would've been 5 in '89.

Why not? Just cause a story is depressing doesn't mean kids can't understand it.

I was thinking more the implied double-suicide being unsuitable for kids.
-
I don't think it ever bothered me - they're less touchy on that stuff over here. Of course I have no idea how my parents thought about that.

That stuff was weird.I doubt anything like that will ever get released these days.
hmmm funny ... I just rented a dvd of Alfred from the library.

I do remember the cartoons and the song but I don't remember the content being that heavy.
