Test Data Suggestions

I'm looking for data sets that I can use to test and demonstrate a grid filtering extension that I've written. The data needs to be reasonably diverse (text, numbers, etc) and should be openly available so I can use it without issue.
I looked at UK census data, but it didn't seem very useful.
Does anyone have any suggestions for freely available data that I could use for this purpose?
