The general impression I've been getting (mostly from TotalBiscuit) is that this new COD is pretty much a tongue-in-cheek self-parody, and "Press F to Pay Respect" fits right in with that interpretation.

At least Advanced Warfare is decent. Ghosts was crap. In all respects. The levels were crap. The graphics were too dense and confusing. The level-up unlocks were awful and made no sense. They even fucked up the netcode, which could have been a Control-C, Control-V from Black Ops 2's excellent netcode.
Except there's 3 studios developing the COD games now (Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games), and the version of the engine being used in each one's game isn't the same. MW2, MW3 and Ghost share the same lineage (coming from IW Engine 4.0), Black Ops 2 uses an improved version of IW Engine 3.0 (the first BO was built on IW 3.0). Massive need of collaboration and consolidation needed there; anything introduced to the engine by one studio wouldn't get used by the others until their next game (2+ years afterwards).

It was more a
commentexplanation on the last part (why the netcode was crap in Ghosts despite being excellent in BO2), pointing out that it's a huge mess, and that it should indicate that Infinity Ward's next game should have decent netcode (assuming those modifications to the 3.0 engine made it into IW Engine v6.0).Not that that matters if you're never playing a COD game again.
