Hey, Guys, What category is this?
-
Without discosauce, tell me, what category is this topic in?
-
Bug
-
Would you prefer it took up lots of space on the header that can't be minimized?
-
-
That totally looks better than just having the title there.
-
I'd be annoyed that the image is blocked, but it's probably dwarf fortress or something.
-
-
It's actually not DF:
But...

Take out the text, fix the sizing, and it might just make sense to just use the colors as a mild indicator.
-
You act like I did something more than take my paint screenshot, and cut the first letter of each piece and smoosh it in front of the title.

I thought you fiddled it in with CSS. Still, my point stands.
-
You're funny.
-
How about something like this?
-
That's actually pretty cool. Doesn't translate well to mobile, but we should make it so for desktop.
@eviltrout
Do it!Maybe for mobile make it a click event on the colored bars.

Doesn't translate well to mobile
You don't even get the topic title in the header bar in Mobile View at all. If you're on Desktop View on a mobile device, then it's tricky.
-
Touch<fancy 'e'>e</fancy>.

That could be argued to be a deliberate Doing It Wrong™, so it's an edge case that doesn't need to be focused upon.

Looks like the last update some minutes ago “fixed” this... But what fix would be complete without CSS positioning bugs?
I mean, nobody uses lowercase “y” and “g” in titles, right?

I don't see that myself, but, for those who override the font Discourse wants to use:
.extra-info.has-category h1 { margin:0; height:1.3em; line-height:normal; }

What browser were you using? Like @ChaosTheEternal, I don't get that effect here on Chrome 37 on Linux.
-
I tried it on Chrome 37, Firefox 32, and IE10 on Windows 7 and none exhibited it. Checked Chrome and IE11 on Win 8.1 as well.
None of my browsers even look close to what is in @VinDuv's screenshot (for me, the letter spacing is a bit wider and the characters aren't as thick).

Firefox 32.0.3 on Linux. I think the problem is that the category display has a
font-family
ofHelvetica,Arial,sans-serif
, so Firefox ends up using a random system font to display it. (I’m supposed to have Arial installed, but i’m not sure whether Firefox actually uses it) .
-
Don't you have Helvetica? That's usually present. But you might have a messed up fontconfig; that seems to be pretty common (and lusers always moan that it's the apps that are broken when it is their dotfiles…)

Linux is TRWTF.

No Helvetica here. And I have a lot of fonts installed.
