What should I do with this old Mini-ITX system?
-
So I found an old Mini-ITX system I'd put together several years ago. It has a dual-core Atom D525 (Intel GMA graphics) and 4 GB laptop DDR3. I originally put it together to be a low-power Minecraft/TeamSpeak server but that stuff has long since been moved to a VMware server I manage. IIRC it only uses about 10 - 15 watts of power.
Any suggestions on what I could use it for? There's no need to do anything server-like with it because of my VMware box but it's tiny enough (about the size of a Wii) I could easily set it up as a second workstation on my desk. Windows 9x retro gaming system? Ubuntu 14 system to finally play around with desktop Linux and keep my beast-mode PC off unless I need the power? Tannerite rifle target (though I hate blowing up perfectly usable computers that aren't 20 years old)?

Can it output HD? If so, low power HTPC
-
I think it only has a VGA output. No need for an HTPC because I'm not much of a movie/TV watcher anyway.

Run your bots on it.

My VMware box already does that, though it seems all my bots are down at the moment.

Give it to charity or someone who might need it.

if the go beep all the better!

I forgot to mention it doesn't have a Windows license (used to have XP on it but I probably reused the license elsewhere) and it doesn't have the top cover either. There's a 120mm fan zip-tied in where the top of the case would go.

ooooh. dangerous shiny things!
even better!

I suppose I could put the Windows 10 preview on it, which may be slightly masochistic since it's an Atom.

Windows 10 preview on it
Did this ever happen?
After all, it'sWindows 10 starts up 28% faster than Windows 7, resumes faster, and comes with more security features than ever. And itβs designed to work with the hardware and software you already use
-
I installed Lubuntu on it and haven't touched it since.

If you installed Lubuntu on it, why would you ever touch it again?

At least without suitable protection:

Jam a noodle in it?

Do you have access to explosives?

What if you run discourse on it?

I vote that you sell it to me! I need more physical servers!

Depending on the mini-ITX system, if it has dual NICs, you could make your own low power firewall and router and learn how all of those pieces fit together.
-
Tannerite is a weird substance in this state. You can buy it, but to actually use it you have to have an explosives license. (Or drive 5 miles to Iowa where it's unregulated.)

What if you run discourse on it?
It's an Intel Atom D525. Basically a netbook. It would be one user waiting 2342348y7986723459234dfjhi289 seconds for a "502 OK" error to popup and then the server lights on fire and burns down my apartment building.
