I'm pretty sure that I've heard the phrase "REST in XML" before.
I think it was someone's last rites.

Don't give them ideas. But seriously, 404 is not supposed to be a 'permanently gone, de-list from search engines' status code, while 410 is.
They should have called it 410 Norwegian Blue.

They get ready to board the plane, but when they get to the place it's supposed to be, there's a teapot there instead.
A lot less people die in this scenario.
