Using Java Portlet Container for custom web application

  • So, I'm going to build this new "product" which is an online web application from this JavaFX (JobHunter) desktop application.

Anyway, I'm sooooooo bored of writing stuff to handle authentication, email templates and all the usual stuff a web application has that I started to look into using Liferay Portlets and was wondering if anyone around here has any sort of experience with it and simply tell me if it's a good idea or not. It could also be an starting point to other projects I have in mind.

It's no worse than OraclePortal and only costs a fraction of that. I think that's about the one cheery upside of it.

  • Sorry, but my question is not about Liferay as a product, but about using this sort of "architecture" to build a new web application.

Anyway, I didn't know Oracle Portals was a thing since I was only looking to free stuff.

That made the question no clearer in my mind.

Very broad and almost impossible to give you a decent answer to.

I'd usually prefer to build my own stuff rather than deal with other people's quirks - but time doesn't always allow for that and its a legitimate tool.

If its a good idea for your project really depends on what you want these components to do and if they're up to the task.

And a bit of personal preference.

It's been years since I last used liferay though. I thought they were more or less dying when portals stopped being a big deal.
