No it's not. Trying not to gratuitously upset people is part of being human, part of being a normal, well adjusted human being. A member of civilised society.Something that you're apparently not.

Duh. I'm a TDWTF regular.

Ah, but there's a difference. If I wanted to gratuitously upset people, I'd make Python jokes every other post. I didn't even do that, I kept it fairly under control and even that wasn't enough for some people.
That's where I objected to his attitude, I wasn't setting out to do it gratuitously, only occasionally, and even that was considered unacceptable.
Sharing something that is considered amusing is also part of being a normal, well adjusted human being. Bitching about everything isn't normal or well adjusted.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day
Unless it's a 24-hour clock, in which case it is right only once a day.

Unless it's going around the earth really fast. Then it might be right all the time or not at all or anywhere in between!!!

I'll be damned before I let the equivalent of the school bully dictate the rules.
Indeed. And like a typical wanna-be alpha, he rage whines when it becomes apparent he isn't one.

And yet, you literally called me a subhuman.
Less human and subhuman are not the same thing. All humans are humans, but some of them display traits attributed to humans more strongly than others.
I just feel like he's more value to the community than I am and whatever my opinion is doesn't really matter.
He's paid his dues for a lot longer than you, I and the rest of the pre-DC lurkers have. 10k posts on the old forums is no small feat, and while our mutual friend would question the legitimacy of posting history as dues, a long posting history establishes a reputation.
The old folks have had the unfair advantage of a several-year head start to establish themselves within this community. Given that time consistently increments at one Planck time per Planck time, there's no way any newcomer can catch up. But does it have to be a race? If you have things to contribute, contribute them. If you enjoy the place, enjoy it.

Sometimes it's more like 2 planck times per planck time. Other times it's half a planck time per hour.
What were we talking about?
-
<foo>"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff."
"Time is an illusion; lunchtime doubly so."
"Drop your panties, Sir William! I cannot wait til' lunchtime!"
Oh, and pedantically, I must point out that it must be one Planck time per two hours, since half a Planck time cannot exist. Also, that it should be capitalized because it is named for a person.
Edit: Yay, another bug. Putting a space before the " will escape turning it into a blockquote except on the first line, because Dicksores strips the leading whitespace. *facepalm*

"Drop your panties, Sir William! I cannot wait til' lunchtime!"
This line (spoken by a Hungarian to a policeman while trying to buy cigarettes from a tobacconist) is the only one I recognize.

Getting back onf topic, can someone paginate this for me?

the only one I recognize.
For shame!

Right; you've seen 0.00005% of my life's output
Well, I don't want to give the impression that I think it's ever acceptable to call someone less human, but I would instead like to suggest reinterpreting the remark in terms of online personas. You might be the type of person who likes to keep their online persona separate from their irl self, thereby creating an online identity that might seem less well rounded (someone might inconsiderately use the word ‘human’ as a metonym for this) than someone like Arantor, who appears to try and put everything he is into his own persona.
Seeing this, one might assume that it would be easier to hurt arantor by criticizing him online than it would be to hurt blakeyrat. Is this accurate, @blakeyrat? Were you sincerely offended by arantor's statement, or were you just acting like you were to try and prove a point? Did you see how bad you hurt arantor? Do you know how much he respected you?

online personas
We've been over this in the Lounge. Blakey rejects the differentiation between an online persona and a real persona.
I disagree, but that's how it is, apparently.

Oh, and pedantically, I must point out that it must be one Planck time per two hours, since half a Planck time cannot exist.
Oh, but it can, statistically. That's just another way of saying one Planck time per four hours.

Sometimes. It depends on how much sand has gotten into his vagina today.

ZOMG...weather related earthquakes‽ That's some heavy weather.
Weirdly, it seems there's some correlation between some types of weather and increased frequency of earthquakes. It's been a while since I read it so I may be garbling this, but I think it's something to do with either changes in loading due to varying rain/snow levels, or something to do with groundwater “lubricating” faults.
It's not a sole cause though. More like the way a chemical catalyst lowers the activation energy for a reaction.
-

Right. I mean, the lubrication theory is pretty plausible, but I still wouldn't call it a weather related event.
-
Or you could realize I just chose the first proper image on google images with the query "litteral toast notification" and couldn't care less about the text :rage4: (<- discourse has some really great smileys )
-
Right. I mean, the lubrication theory is pretty plausible, but I still wouldn't call it a weather related event.
It depends on what your threshold for calling an event “weather related” is, I suppose. It's not entirely unrelated (i.e., in drier years you don't see the same rate of upswing) yet it's probably not correlated strongly with single rainstorms. It's in that awkward hinterland of “somewhat”…

In this case, I think such a classification is more misleading than illuminating. I could see it being legit in a joking way, assuming that topic had come up somewhere before, like as some sort of an inside joke.
It's in that awkward hinterland of “somewhat”…
I have no clue if this is right, but I suspect tidal forces could have a bigger influence than rain. Might as well call earthquakes another 'that time of the month' phenomenon.
-

That doesn't even make sense since he has previously stated that he uses a distinct persona here at TDWTF.
-

I wouldn't be at all surprised at that. The fun bit is that you can be precisely technically right on that while still annoying certain people (who admittedly are looking out for ways to be annoyed, so an easy target).

My brain really wanted to connect these two unrelated posts
@boomzilla said:It depends on how much sand has gotten into his vagina today.
lubrication theory
but in this context, at least, sand is a terrible lubricant.
-
That's why it's a theory.

Blakey rejects the differentiation between an online persona and a real persona.
(trying not to sound like a contradicting asshole but) Really? That's not how I read it...
What bothers me is that people are focusing on the medium and not the message. I type those rants because:
- they're entertaining (both for me to type, and presumably for others to read)
- they're funny (at least, I think they're hilarious)
- they make it more likely that people will read my posts
Basically it's a persona
I suppose the best person to ask is @blakeyrat himself.
-
I did correct myself in another thread, because it was brought up there. Let's see if Discosearch cooperates...
Well I'll be damned, it worked:

Ah, I missed that. It's funny how these discussions get fragmented across multiple threads.

It's funny how these discussions get fragmented
What we probably need is a piece of software that enables us to keep those discussions together, along with an admin who is brutal enough to cut & prune discussions as they feel fit. Something modern, something to make Discourse on the internet "civilised".
We could call it…
phpBB
Except one of our original issues with Jeff was that he cut and pruned discussions as he saw fit to fit his vision of how things should be.

Right; you've seen 0.00005% of my life's output, and therefore you're qualified to judge me.
Seeing that judgement is required for proper choices, it does not matter that someone has 0.00005% of your life as data. You put that miniscule amount forward, it's all we have to make a judgement on. Judgement is required. The rule is "Judge and prepare to be judged." Judge away.

Let's raise the bar.
phpBB with some handmade modules.
Deal with it.

I'd still recommend SMF over phpBB any day. And I write handmade modules for it, too.
