I just died laughing

I'm preserving @PJH bug report here for posterity.
-
Link, $DEITY damn it! No links are a barrier to lulz!
https://meta.discourse.org/t/author-of-autoclose-messages/18576
-
No link because i don't want our group to spam that topic.
-
You know that finding it is relatively easy anyway, right?
-
Yes, but it's a higher level of effort than is what is typical of spammers.
Because spammers are stupid, and wouldn't put the effort to get to level 1
-
What... I don't even...
JDGI.
-
Yes, but it's a higher level of effort than is what is typical of spammers.
You take me for a typical spammer? How dare you sir! I will let you know I'm a higher class troll.
-
You earned a like this time, however I resent the lack of Belgian accent or any mention of 'ze leetle grey cells'
-
Didn't want to push it too far. And I tried to avoid the B word.
-
I suppose it is a bit border line as referring to something as being related to B*****m.
-
hey, I remember discovering that. And PJH doesn't even mention me.
Also you guys need to cut Jeff some slack! Discourse is very complexly built so no attacker can ever use a bug to do harm anytime ever! No Way! So if a highly skilled hacker can't know how it works, how would Jeff know?
Filed Under: I am deeply insulted(not really)
-
Certainly not by ignoring the back end entirely, and interacting solely with the front end UI.
-
Nice pot of stupid in that link.
Yes, spammers won't have bots register accounts that sit for a bit without posting once, then try to post a ton of messages in a burst to try and bypass any "new user" limits. Never been thought of, they won't do that, so it's a wonderful idea to only block them on the first day.
One of the paragraphs in this post is completely sarcastic. Feel free to guess which one.
-
But I thought ignoring certain things that are not to his liking is one of Jeffs strong points?
How do other forums handle things -> ignored
Users want certain features -> ignored
Discourse makes sense -> what?
Filed a bug -> WONTFIXALSOIGNOREDFiled Under: This post will also be ignored

Since we are on the topic of closing things.
Why can't I close topics? I rose to the rank of a leader. I am able to rename topics (even the ones other people created). I can move topics to categories I didn't even know existed before.
But I can not - for SOME reason - close topics? Not even the ones I created?
What is closing my own topics a barrier to?
-
But I can not - for SOME reason - close topics? Not even the ones I created?
I was sure you could do that even if not a leader? The hell?
-
maybe I just can't see the option.
It's not like Discourse makes these things easy to see. I searched for it for about 3 minutes and then gave up. I actually didn't even want to close a topic. I just wanted to know how to if the need ever came to be.
Filed Under: Am I TRWTF for not finding things in Discourse?
-
Nope, can't find it either.
Well... yay.
-
Here's all I can find, which doesn't have any real answer from Atwood, but from @riking (post #11), saying only User Level 4 and staff can close threads.
-
Stock photo of Jeff working on Discourse.

Why can't I close topics? I rose to the rank of a leader. I am able to rename topics (even the ones other people created).
Wait... you can?
-
-
Follow-up question: Why?
So right now there's nothing stopping me from adding the word "penis" to every topic?
-
Because... because...
Damn it, because you read things! Like, 50% of it! You even posted! That clearly indicates you're a well respected member of community that should be trusted with such powers!
So right now there's nothing stopping me from adding the word "penis" to every topic?
Nothing at all. Except maybe people who prefer purple dildos.
-
Huh.
-
-
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS
Body is invalid; try to be a little more descriptive
-
Holy shit.
"I just died laughing at your Ok I apologize I usually endeavor not to mess with other people's shit , that was immature and I regret doing it - Blakeyrat"
I know I edited it, but I thought it was funny at the time. If I offended, sorry.

I know I edited it, but I thought it was funny at the time. If I offended, sorry.
I'm confused...
-
I quoted the current title of this thread. Someone (who may or may not be blakeyrat) is apologising for editing this thread. I too edited this thread and wanted apologise in case anyone got offended. Because I'm a wuss and that's how I roll.
-
I swear to $DEITY, I leave you children alone for two hours and you deface the site (or at least my topic).
You guys are worse than my animals, and my animals carry shit around the house when I'm not there.
-
But they can't rename titles!

Well… it would be something of a dick move.
Try the veal and don't forget to tip your server.
-
Nope, can't find [close topic] either.
It's not an option for most, despite the implication in Jeff's reply in my bug report. Level 4 and staff only.
-
I am going to guess that the actual intention was to allow Leaders to move stuff to other categories when necessary, but from some reason that is tied up to being able to change the title.
-
...but from some reason that is tied up to being able to change the title.
...and which probably leaked into DC from SO.
-
but from some reason that is tied up to being able to change the title
We also get the ability to close polls as an extension of that! Yay!
-
We also get the ability to change random lists in OP-topics into polls, don't we?
Filed Under: the FAQs use lists, right?
