Orlando Bloom v Justin Bieber
-
Orlando complained that his hand was pretty sore after the incident...
Apparently the entire nightclub had queued up to high-five him.
-
I hope it's true.
-
The American populace should take up a collection and flood Orlando's home with truck loads of free beer. I would hazard a guess that 100M people want to buy him a beer right now.

Only 100M?

I don't approve of violence against women.
-
I don't hate Justin Bieber. He's pretty much a non-factor in my life, like a Kardashian, except that I hear a lot of people complain about them. I sure ain't wasting my beer money on a rich actor.
-
Not only do I not hate Beiber, I don't really approve of the hate either.
The thing is, he was like just a normal douchy 13-14 year old kid, whose little You-Tube video happened to go viral. Gigantic media conglomerates then took him under his wing and turned him into a disgusting soulless cash cow he is now. Now I'm not saying he had no part in this, but hating him always feels at least partially like blaming the victim. Like judging one of those African kid-soldiers, who had little to no chance of becoming something else. IMO the real hate should be directed at the adults around Beiber, who took this kid's life and ruined it for their own benefit.
But then again, I don't really watch or follow Beiber (or popular media) in any way, so I could be wrong about he details. shrugs

Yep. Like most child stars.
-
I don't hate him, I just find him super annoying. He epitomizes all that is wrong with pop culture.

That's kind of my point. I don't really find him at all, except when he penetrates my bubble via people telling me how terrible he is. Which makes me sympathetic towards him as a knee jerk contrarian reaction.

knee jerk contrarian reaction.
From my exposure to you, I think all of your reactions are contrarian.
-
TRWTF is that you know what's on TMZ.

Bieber himself has pretty much turned into an ass since he became a big thing.
Though I think most people would have the same problem.

I think that's just because you're mostly wrong.

I get the feel he was always a little douchebag. But without the fame, he would have probably remained a harmless every-day douche. Like one of those people who get drunk and yell during their kids' sport games. Or who park their car sideways into a neighboring parking slot. Who knows, he could have even actually contributed something to society. But thanks to his parents, publishers and media, he never had the chance.
-
Look at you lot discussing popular culture like it's in fashion or something. So much for this forum being overrun with crotchety old men...
-
Who wasn't an ass at his age?
Maybe Mennonites aren't. Pretty much everybody else is.

You could at least quote Jimmy Fallon.

You could at least quote Jimmy Fallon.
...Or any number of other people who came up with the joke...
-
It is, indeed, the World's Most Obvious Joke. No professional comedian should be proud of saying that on a late night show.

-
What the hell did I just watch?
-
Something you should not have.

So people talk about something because it's annoying to hear about and they hear about it because others are annoyed by hearing about others talk about being annoyed because others are talking about it...
All this bullshit would just go away if people would stop talking about it.
Some things in media are so terrible that they shouldn't be brought up at all. Not even as a counter-example. These form the lowest caste of the media hierarchy. They constitute the "unmentionables" in that they should not even be mentioned by anyone above that level.
