What's the alternative? There's no return value. It's destructors that shouldn't throw exceptions IIRC.

@Lorne-Kates triggered abilities are those that trigger automatically. They can sometimes trigger at the beginning of turn, especially if the text says "at the beginning of turn".
Thank you for explaining the minutiae of Magic timing effects in response to my post that demonstrates advanced knowledge of Magic timing effects. :/
You confused triggered abilities with activated abilities. I just couldn't help pointing it out. And the lengthy description was directed to the bystanders eating popcorn - at least those who aren't very good in magic.

@accalia This sounds like it needs a dedicated sidebar thread, not some post buried a few thousand pages into the status thread.

No idea, but because that was happening, it crashed the entire stack so badly I was off in la-la land wondering why it couldn't find DLL files and crap when the issue was actually along the lines of "bad command line parameter was specified".

Something something checked exceptions...
Filed Under: Yes, they're probably abused...

Status: seem to have broken the database, or SQL Developer, or something. No idea how. Can SELECT, can run DDL, but DML just hangs and chokes everything up until I kill the session.
Fixed by the ever-reliable method of shutting down for the night and hoping it works in the morning. Yay.

Broken again, by the simple expedient of saying it was fixed. I'm wondering if it might be some kind of weird network issue - our network is crap - rather than anything actually broken.

.... sure, okay. I call upon the power of @blubar to move the posts to a new thread, since he's the one that wants it there instead of here.

it would too, given that it would utterly break the website, including the part that does the uploads.
-
@accalia why the timeout is a WTF? Don't you need a higher timeout for larger upboats?

also that sort of shit happens all the time in the msdn docs. i've given up on the internal search/navigation and use google to search the site instead.

It's also been commented on many times before. MS just seems to find “put things in one place and leave them there” difficult on the web. Nor do they really seem to have mastered redirects.

Yep. I also find it amusing that Bing is so much worse at searching MS's own sites…

No idea
You put the parts of the initialization that might fail in a new function. Downside is you have to call that function everywhere you instantiate the class.
-

I was going for a cheap pun and went looking for the lyrics of any song named "Please kill me now", but there are too many and I really don't want to listen to them all to pick the crappiest one of them, so please accept this overly long sentence as a pun on the topic of "oh, is that your most hated song, why didn't you just say so" come to think of it this was not so funny as it was in my head before I started typing maybe I should just fbmac it all to oblivion before some idiot clicks the submit butto

@RaceProUK I'd have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids...?

Admit it, you would have been very disappointed and wounded if @RaceProUK had actually posted the song title. Almost as wounded as if she had hit you with her favorite ClueKo Hammer.

@izzion no, I would have been quite amused to see what the other forum denizens would have made o f it.

So it's not really the constructor throwing that's the problem, but main not catching anything and presenting it in a user-friendly way.

Status: dad and I had a spatz last night because I accidentally left the monitor in my room on (other sleep in there too). He comes at me attacking about how inconsiderate I am blah blah blah.
Sure, maybe. You know the solution? Let them ask if it bothers them and I can say, "oh whoops, my bad, yeah just turn it off." we're in a sorry state if everyone is so fearful of touching my stuff that you don't even have the gumption to ask.
I mean, if I left the light on would there be any issues? No. Because it's a fucking light. You just turn it off. Nothing to see here.
I asked them this morning if they noticed it was on and keeping them awake (as was dads claim). Didn't even notice.
Am I wrong?
