Screen shaking upon entering a topic

It might be a browser bug. I went through a phase of seeing that a while back whenever I plugged a second monitor in while the mach
It's a bug in LockOn /
lockon.js
, as my previous code traces have showed. No clue what the real bug is or how to fix it, though.

That's a bug? I thought it was an annoying feature.

That's annoying? I thought the wiggle was a fun quirk.

Been in an earhquake once. Need trigger warning.

I was in the '89 quake as a child. The screen shaking makes me feel right at home~

I remember being under a table.

This one?
I remember being under a table.
Yes, I remember thinking something like, "Earthquake... Hmm, seems fairly strong; I wonder if I should take cover... This workbench is steel, but it doesn't really look all that sturdy; I wonder if it would really protect me if stuff (specifically, chunks of concrete-block wall) started falling... ... ... It's still going. I think I will take cover; it may not be very good protection, but it's probably better than nothing." According to that article, the quake only lasted 10-15 seconds, so that internal dialog only lasted probably about half of that, but it seemed a lot longer at the time. (Turned out to be unnecessary; nothing even fell off of shelves, much less anything that could have done damage to me. No real damage at my apartment, either — broke one lamp that was hideously ugly anyway.)

Yeah, they always seem like they take forever. Partly because you have no clue when they'll stop. At the time, I was in the better half of the state and was inconvenienced by the delay of the World Series.

Neither of the times I went to the US did I encounter a quake - not even going through California for several days. I feel robbed of an essential emotional experience.
-
Please, a little warning before using the T-word. Those things are responsible for initiating the firing mechanisms on firearms, which are in turn responsible for millions of deaths each year, which in turn I get very upset about.

To be fair, there's a little warning right after it.

FYI, about 37000 earthquakes are reported annually in California, but most are too small to feel. USGS reports 17586 earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater in California since 1973. (Earlier data is available only for bigger quakes.) Of these, the vast majority (14157) are for magnitudes 3 <= magnitude < 4, or noticeable if you are nearby (within a few miles of the epicenter). This is an average of a bit under one per day. (Typically, it would be rather less than that, since a lot of them tend to occur in clusters.) If we take an ass-pull and say you could feel one of these if you were within 10 miles, California has an area of over 160000 square miles, so that would give you a less than 2% chance of feeling one even given that one happened on a day you were in the state. Multiply by "several days" and your odds are still pretty low.
As for larger quakes, ones likely to induce an "essential emotional experience," the probability decreases by roughly an order of magnitude for each unit of magnitude. There have been only 24 quakes magnitude >= 6 (potentially destructive) in the last 41 years.
I've been through two of them, the one discussed above, and this one. My family were among the evacuees in the third paragraph. You can have your emotional experience if you really want it; I'd rather not have another one.

So Warning Trigger would be better?

You mean: Yoda, only if you are. Yeesssssss.

No, I didn't, because I'm @boomzilla. @Yoda hasn't registered yet.

Yes, that one. I don't remember it at all, I'm told I was in a vehicle though.
I actually don't recall feeling an earthquake my 18 years in Cali. I noticed my first earthquake after moving to Ohio :D I am told I slept through dozens of quakes that woke other people up, though.

Not exactly, it should be "Trigger Warning" instead

Thanks, never even noticed that typo.
