My own WTF

  • So, today I'm 30. So far, I've received way more happy birthday emails from forums I belong to then from friends. Yay.

  • Don't worry. IM messages from serv. operators will start arriving soon :)

  • Happy Birthday!

  • HBD.

  • So what's the WTF? That you have too few friends, that the people
you consider friends apparently don't care, or that you belong to too
    many forums? ;-)

Personally I view celebrating the number of
times the planet you're on has orbitted the star that you're going
around since you became an independent lifeformais a WTF in itself. Bah
    humbug!

     Either way, happy birthday :-)

  • My 30th birthday is tomorrow (seriously).  I'll promise not to
wish you a Happy Birthday if you promise not to wish me one, either.

    Agreed!

And the wtf is both - I belong to to many mailing lists/forums, and I don't have enough friends!

I'm 33.  Happy birthday to BOTH of you...

As someone who doesn't even remember 40, and is barrelling toward 50 (or is it 50 that is barrelling toward me???), I envy you both. Happy Birthday!

P.S. Having friends is overrated: mine are already starting to send me bottles of Geritol, packages of Depends and subscription forms to AARP...

  • I'm not even 20 yet! No one remembers my birthday :-P

I don't remember receiving any Happy Birthday emails from friends. They usually call or see me.

Ah, someone envying my age... Now that is the greatest birthday present I could have ever received. Thank you :D

Try buying some liquor.  That usually works.

  • WTF is it with September birthdays?  Mine's Saturday; I don't expect any happy birthday e-mails, because, (perhaps surprisingly), I don't really communicate with my friends by e-mail ...

Am I weird because I have friends, or am I weird because I don't e-mail them?

  • I don't email friends. that's what a phone is for.  EMail = business, phone = personal.

9 months from Christmas/New Year's parties. Simple biology.

Oh, and hi all! Been reading the forums and posts for a while now but hadn't got around to replying to anything.

That's been my theory for some time.  I have no proof of it, however.  And it's not important enough to prove; there are many, far more interesting projects.

That said, what is it about Christmas/New Years parties that causes more unprotected sex than other parties?  (I've never worked in a place that has the "wild office Christmas Party."  Maybe it's time to dig out the resume).

Not likely.  I doubt children are conceived at office parties.. I'd put a lot more on non-work parties if anything. And people don't go out as much, they stay home and cuddle by the fire (or in bed because they are cold, and one thing leads to another.. even for couples).  Or because they are on vacation they are more relaxed and more in the mood for sex.  And probably a whole host of other reasons..

  • This is the worst WTF ever. This site has really gone downhill. It doesn't have code or management WTFs. How did this make it to the front page... oh wait...

So seeing as how this is a forum, I'd just like to shout out a big 'Happy Birthday' to everyone!

That way, you can stop by this thread on your birthday and cheer yourself up by adding me to the list of people you don't know wishing you all the best for the year ahead and many happy returns.

Hey, I might even stop by here again on my birthday.

You're obviously going to the wrong office parties!

Myself having a late November birthday, I've also noticed the pattern around then, too, at least here (UK). Any relation to Valentine's day 9 months previously perhaps? Or I could be imagining it.

Does anyone have any recent data on birth rates by month? The last time I saw any data it was old (80s) but September was clearly the most 'common' month.

Okay,  poor choice of words on my part, initially.  Yes, I've noticed the seeming dominance of September as a birth month, and done the math; I've just wondered what it is about late December that makes baby-making more likely; as RayS pointed out, why doesn't November dominate?  Doesn't "Valentine's Day" scream "sex" more than "Christmas..."?  I can see this turning into one of those completely pointless quests for knowledge that I let myself get sidetracked into, just because.

50 years ago, I guess it would've made sense (cold, short days, etc), but why does the trend *seem* to continue?  Or, is the trend not actually continuing.

Never mind.  It's *really* pointless, isn't it.  It must be the Friday before my birthday.
