Topic counting 101
-
At a loss for words. :running::goberserk:
Edit: ugh, ok, don't know when it happens, since it's now showing the correct value. But, still, where was that counter cached for a whole hour?!

Counting is utterly broken in here. Topic count in profile is broken, unread topic count on the main page is broken, the scrollbar/post-counter is broken...

unread topic count on the main page is broken
I fixed that on Friday ... go ahead try it ... leave the browser open.
Filed under: for the record new was also broken for a different reason

Repro: Go to Unread tab, middle-click and read some posts.
Granted, it's far less annoying than before, but you guys still need a visit to Sesame Street.

With @Lorne_Kates starring as the grouch?

Funny that you mention that

Thing is the count is working, the list is the problem here, making it auto update the counts and drop items off as stuff happens is a whole other can of worms. We will eventually get to it, but there are a pile of subtle issues there.

Adding one more bullet-point to that list: (Repro: like or unlike a topic's first post. Watch the topic detail area not update the number of likes in real-time)

Did you guys really spend the weekend looking for Discourse bugs?

Did you guys really spend the weekend looking for Discourse bugs?
You don't really need to look for them.

I wonder if this was a result of one of your topics being moved / split / deleted / undeleted.
UserActions are cached for perf reasons (create topic is a user action)

That shot reminds me of something that I occasionally notice, but there's really nowhere good to mention it. There is no visible separation between links in the following situations:
It took me a little while to figure out that "N people liked this. Like it too." and "You and N other liked this. Undo like." are each 2 links. I can understand why they're set up that way, but it might be a good idea to have clearer separation between them, like maybe a line break instead of a space.
And while I'm thinking of it, maybe we should have a Meta > Feature Requests category. Then ideas like this could have their own little home.
Tagging @sam and @codinghorror to bring this to their attention.

Well, there is at least a feature requests catch all meta topic that already exists; I split some of the "genuine bugs" posts out there, that were not bugs.

Seems OK now:
