How do I remove my email address from my profile?
-
My email address seems to be visible on my profile. I'd really rather that weren't the case. I'm assuming it's a setting, but I can't find it.

When you have questions about if the software is leaking private data, it's good practice to try visiting as anonymous.
Here's what I see:
The email address is only visible to you and (admins|staff) (not sure which).

Good to know that a potential leak of information is unintentional.

Personally I'm just wondering what it's doing there in the first place.
On my other profile it doesn't even show the full email address there, and if you really want to know what/change your email address, it's listed in its entirety on your preferences page...

What is this joke?

I just looked and can't see it. I assume that showing someone their own email address is OK as long as other people (other than the very highly authorised) don't get to see it?

Email address is the main source of identity / login / notification and is one of the key identifiers on an account.
For example, if I click "log in with Google" and that google account maps me to a known email address, I log in as that user. Even if I've never logged in with Google before (say I used Facebook, or a local username/password combo.)
Hence, it should be shown on your profile.

The email address is only visible to:
- staff
- yourself
Correct?

But it's not part of the PROFILE, it should be just the main source of identity. To check that, there's always
/users/[username]/preferences/email
, as PJH already said...

@codinghorror Bug:
what.thedailywtf.com/my/preferences/email doesn't work.
