Except it hasn't.
Why is browse? Why is browse?

I just got the same thing. :(

"Error; that password is already in use by user [alex] - please pick another password"
(that's not an error that I have actually seen, but I would like to :))

I saw a "title entropy" setting somewhere.
Wonder if that's related?

Pass. It's on the "Posting" page:
The minimum allowed entropy (unique characters, non-english count for more) required for a topic title
Default 4. Title of "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" probably not allowed, "ABCD" probably allowed. If there isn't another "ABCD".Unless it's also counting entropy with other titles, rather than just with itself....
Given the above, would "ABCDE" be allowed because by itself it has 5 unique characters, or disallowed because it shares all but 1 with "ABCD"... enquiring minds etc.

More importantly, why do you have a trophy icon next to your username?

Holy shit, quoting quotes is broken. Had nobody attempted that before?

What's broken about it?

Refreshing the thread list seems to yield different results than letting it AJAX update.Filed Under: It did notify me about the new post that I just wrote but apparently never read.

It's copying all the good stuff from Twitter and Tumblr.

Found "allow duplicate topic titles" under Settings > Postings; currently disabled....

So far, I'm not seeing a pattern to when it does or does not show new posts, but some threads seem to fail consistently.

It's sporadically marking read posts as unread for me now.

To be fair, I've had that problem occasionally with CS, too; Discourse is bad, but it isn't necessarily worse in that regard.

CS routinely marked unread posts as read but only for a few minutes, it seemed to be a caching issue. Discourse just rolls the dice and reads from the D&D tables on what it should do for read/unread.

By default Discourse doesn't allow duplicate topic titles. There's also an entropy check to avoid noise titles.

Make sure you visit your preferences to set how you want new stuff to appear. The defaults are fairly tame to avoid over-notifying casual folks, you may want more notifications.

Well, if you'll notice this is the second thread of the whole forum. I tried to create a thread called "Why not create a topic?" (pasting in the call-to-action from the link). The only other existing thread was "Frist! And Welcome". I'm not sure how that tripped the dupe check.

I was reporting the opposite problem, where things I have read are showing up as unread.

Indeed, which has also been mentioned. Documentation for which (apart from having to dig through the source code) is sparse to the extent of being non-existent. As is documentation for a lot of things.

I changed some of those settings because I wanted to post things like "hey" and "AAAAAAGH" which is how we roll.
-
I do appreciate the up-arrow for when I quote & post so I can post and quickly go back to resume reading all of your pointless drivel.

Now title has not only been used, but necro revived at random by suggested topics!
edit: Forgot @presidentsdaughter

So, are duplicate topic titles still forbidden, or can we ironically have a second “Title has already been used” topic?
-
are duplicate topic titles still forbidden
Yes. No, there's nothing I can do to change it.
Probably has something to do with point #2 here - if there were two with the same it would break/wouldn't know where to to/pick one at random.

Did the setting disappear in the meantime?
I don’t really care about this, but i’m just confused now...

Oh... Um..
Ignore me there - I'm plainly talking bollocks, and sit corrected.
It's still disabled. And likely to remain so...
