I love how far these threads can go off-topic :)

This one time, my dad was mowing the lawn and it had been a while since we mowed under the trampoline. We moved the trampoline, and about 10 seconds into the tall grass, we here it. thunk He hit a bed(??) of rabbits. One of them didn't make it, so we buried it. Dramatic experience for 10 year old me. I believe this was my first "tough skin" experience as well, because no more than a week later, our dogs dug it up and ate it.

I think your definition of "tall grass" is a bit outside of what is normal. Most people think tall grass (at least applied to a yard) is like 6 inches to a foot, but tall enough to hide rabbits sounds like your version is a lot longer than that.

Rabbits burrow in grass
Part underground all is tall,
But not tall enough

I would categorise lawn grass as follows:
- Short: <1 inch
- Doesn't need a cut: 1 - 2.99 inches
- Needs a cut: 3 - 3.99 inches
- Long: 4 - 5.99 inches
- Really Long: 6 inches - 1 foot
- Tall: >1 foot
This is just the scale that we use in our house (or rather, garden); it's is not an international standard.

My "needs a cut" is over a foot. When the peaks reach a metre is when I get off my arse and do something about it! But it goes spindly: really some long tufts of Rhodes grass or weeds in the middle of shorter cooch.
Rabbits are illegal in my state. There is literally a rabbit proof fence to keep them out. It wasn't built by Emperor Nasi Goreng like the Great Wall of China to keep their rabbits out though, even if Telstra tells you this.
