This didn't start out as another complaint about Firefox

  • It started when I came across a story about this: http://www.kyleayers.com/post/67277872092/roofbreakup

"A couple ran onto my roof and starting breaking up, right in front of a
bunch of people who were just up there hanging out.  I live tweeted the
    breakup."
Here are some excerpts from his live Tweeting of the breakup. Some of the best sentences you'll ever find on the Internet.

"I'm not looking for marriage, just what's right below marriage"

"I can't think in terms of like, time and shit"

"Just tell me what you want but don't make it something fucking gay"

"I'm not talking about love on a roof in Brooklyn."

Extra bonus points: The Twitter page doesn't work properly in Firefox (v24 - the latest "Exteneded Service Release"). I could only see the first two Tweets, with absolutely no way to see anything else. (Works fine in Chrome and IE). I clicked on a link for something called "Storify" and was able to see more of the Tweets, but when I got to the bottom of the page, the "Read Next Page" button doesn't work (works fine in Chrome and IE).

Good work Firefox. Breaking the Internet one little bit at a time.

Today is also the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Here is one of only two known photos of Lincoln at Gettysburg. He's probably Tweeting about his upcoming speech.

  • It works in Firefox but you have to disable Adblock Plus.

So basically it's still a Firefox WTF but it's nothing new, I had the same issue with a website I maintain, for some reason AdBlock Plus FF randomly hides stuff that AdBlock Plus Chrome doesn't.

When I was college the people next door would often have huge shouting fights. We became so familiar with their arguments that often when I would come home one of my roommate would give me an update about our favorite characters in their lives or explain that Kevin the Jerk was the same person as The Fucking Woodchipper Cunt (previously believed to be a woman). Also for a long time we were convinced that Terri was someone married to a bad person because she would often be called "Terri and her shitbag" but we later found out that she had a colostomy bag.

For almost 2 years we updated a website with all the news about those people and we swore to maintain it forever, but later it ended up hosted on Xoom and disappeared in the Dot Com trashcan.

In this case I think that my Adblock Chrome wasn't blocking the same things that the Firefox version was. TRWTF is Twitter using stupid pointless Javascript. The only thing blocked on those pages were 3 Javascript files:

    • edge.quantserve.com/quant.js
    • rackcdn.com/3.1.161-production-09ff4ed9-80bbc7bdabc238dc785f390bced58fe0.js
    • rackcdn.com/3.1.161-production-09ff4ed9-7a61f912116f5d685f606ee184cc44ec.js

And the only difference between viewing the page blocked/unblocked is the unblocked version shows all the tweets instead of just the first two, and the "Read Next Page" button works. That's it. No ads or other widgets. Really Twitter? You need 3 Javascript files for that?

A friend used to send me e-mails about a Korean couple who lived in the apartment below him. Despite being a bit politcally incorrect in his descriptions I found the stories humourous:
I call them "boy" and "girl". They look identical, except girl has long hair and little tits. Boy has the traditional Asian thick glasses and bowl hair cut. Every morning, boy gets in their Suzuki at exactly 6:45 am, drives off, and returns exactly 15 minutes later, empty handed. I have no idea where he goes.

Girl seems to be in charge of taking the trash out to the dumpster. She always runs to and from the dumpster like she is being chased.

I don't know what their jobs are, or if they have jobs. Maybe they are grad students. They seem to always be home. The other day, they were playing tennis at dusk, when it was 28 degrees outside.

Boy and girl are pretty quiet. Once in a while, I hear music, but it doesn't last for long. But they do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time rearranging their furniture down there, usually in the evenings.

They have one of those after-market steering wheel pads installed on their car. A couple of weekends ago, they were out there polishing it together. No talking, all business . . . just silently polishing it, like the other one wasn't even there.

I never did get around to asking him what the hell a steering wheel pad is or why you would polish it.

    I don't get it.

What card? The link is for a steering wheel cover that is microfiber which you obviously can't polish.

so like this then shut up little man http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1766085/
it was much harder for something to go 'viral' before the internet you had to make a recording on a thing called a tape, and physically give it to someone else.

Or why the hell you would need two peope to polish it. ("How many asians do you need to polish a steering wheel pad? - Two." - hmm, no, that doesn't work. There's just something missing.)

"...one to wax on, one to wax off."

Do I have to do everything for you people?

At least they were doing something. I used to date a girl from Kentucky and every summer we had to go visit her family in a rural area. Two doors down from her folks (which is like 3 miles in that area) there was an old Ford pickup truck with no wheels on the lawn, something common in redneckland, but what is not common is a ritual happening there during the summer days. The owners of that house, an elderly couple, dress in formal clothes, then the man sits in the dead pickup truck and the woman sits on the porch, and they stay like that for hours. They don't move excep to wave cars driving by (which is maybe 5 cars a day).

So it's really an AdBlock Plus filter WTF.

Doesn't stop Firefox being a collection of WTFs unto itself of course.

I think we found the aliens.

Those two old folks are communicating a great deal of information back and forth.  It's just they're doing it telepathically and you can't hear it, so to you it looks like they're sitting there silently.

It's like that documentary I once saw ("Tall Blondes", and episode of Nature) where they set up audio equipment to record ultra-low-frequency sounds, then took one giraffe inside a barn for some medical tests.  As things got underway, all the giraffes still out in the yard became agitated, and the recording showed a lot of activity at that point in a range below human hearing.  Everybody thinks giraffes are mute, but apparently they have a lot of chatter going on down in the "Barry White Is A Sissy" band.
