TDWTF NSW

  • Is it just me, or does it seem that TDWTF is becoming more NSW??

We have "Awesome Sex" on the main page; and "ucnt" on the sidebar. Can we just clean this up a little bit? I'm fine with * in the obvious places to keep it relatively SFW.

I'm curious how many people got into trouble when their corporate browser monitor software caught them looking at a page titled "Awesome Sex".

  • The Daily Worse Than Failure: Mediocre Intercourse Between Smooth, Genital-less Mounds

  • I was under the impression that those who visit websites that their corporate overlords may not approve of do so at their own risk.

  • Misleading thread title. I thought you were going to complain about the blues' loss last night.

It's a bit like going to a strip club, standing up on a table and loudly asking all of the dancers to keep their tops on, because your wife will kill you if she finds out you went to a titty bar.

I'm still waiting for the day when someone pulls me aside and says "what is this "Daily WTF" site you go to? This is clearly not work related."

Then I will ask them to read any of the most recent main page posts then tell me again if they think it's not appropriate.

Once they stop chuckling at something they read, I'm sure that they'll agree with me that it is indeed work related. You can learn a lot about your trade by reading how other people go horribly wrong.

But that vision is becoming muted because of some of the content I'm reading here. Don't get me wrong, I certainly enjoy the banter and if I only read TDWTF at home I would have no issue; but lately I need to check over my shoulder before opening it up.

Or calling Google to remove a Google Street View photo where you company car can be seen in the parking lot of the strip club. In daytime. With the logo in full view.

The forum is a completely different place when Morbs is around and posting. Personally I like it better during the times he's not.

Poor Morbs!  When did (s)he(/it) ever shit on you?!

Mmm.... no. Things will ebb and flow one way or another.

    @DrPepper said:

    Hell no.

  • To be clear, I have no issue with the language or what-not on the forum. The "work-safe-ness" or whatever.

To spell it out a bit:

    1) When Morbs isn't here, there are jokes *other* than people just coming up with the most disgusting sex act possible. Yeah we get it, you think it's funny. But give it a fucking rest sometimes, ok? How about maybe the forum have just a little tiny iota of class for a bit?
    2) Morbs thread-shits all over threads he has no interest in, for example when we're talking about video games he'll just shit out "I don't like video games" in 4 different posts, inbetween interrupting the people who *are* trying to discuss video games with pointless rants about boots.
    3) For some reason, when Morbs is around, other people start acting exactly like Morbs so the bullshit just gets multipled in a bullshit echo-chamber. For example, they engage him for no reason in pointless rants about boots.

    I really hate the boots.

  • In the past I've found that the filtering at work lets me view the site when I'm not logged in, but suddenly decides that it's "too offensive" once I log in. Clearly the filter thinks that I'm an offensive person... but surprisingly it's letting me post now. WebMarshal is TRWTF.

I also used to tunnel into your server and proxy through it when I wanted to browse some specific sites at work. And at home. And at the library. But either you changed your password or did not pay your Dell bill because it's not working anymore. So now I have to use the tethering on that iPhone someone left on a table at Starbucks.

  • @blakeyrat said:

That's hardly my fault! I come up with all kinds of jokes that aren't disgusting sex acts.

From my perspective, you were thread-shitting by continuing to talk about video games when clearly the zeitgeist had moved on and was behind boots. Or you could just ignore me, like I do when confronted which stuff I'm not interested in. Threads can support multiple threads of discussion.

Yeah, I seem to bring out the Morbs in everyone, which is weird. But when someone comes along and is all "I'm the kind of douche who makes the world an unlivable hellhole and who you fantasize about stabbing with a pair of scissors!", it's like the clouds part and a voice from the heavens says "This is why you were made, my child. You suffered a long 29 years so you could get to this place and fight this battle. Now go! Attack him for being tacky!"

Of course, that scene seems to play out about 10 times a day, but I can't help it that the world is full of bad people.

    @blakeyrat said:

So do I!! That's what I'm trying to protect us from!

  • @Ronald said:

But either you changed your password...

SSH keys, not passwords. And you lie, because I was only hacked once, when I gave a shell account to an 18 year-old gay guy so he could play around with Unix. He ended up thinking I was cute (a curse all straight women and gay men who are around me are destined to fall into) and wanted to share JO pictures, which was like "Umm.........." Anyway, his password was really simple and some script brute-forced it and installed an IRC daemon under his account, so I had to terminate his access. THE END.

  • @blakeyrat said:

On some level, I guess I agree. But I've seen enough blakeyrants to come to expect them in every thread. I find those more annoying than morbs shitfests because I like jokes, even if they're offensive or base. When morbs is seriously discussing something, at least you can present decent points that support an opposing view, and there is a chance he'll accept them and change his opinion. I don't think I've ever seen you change your opinion about anything, and although that may not be offensive, I personally find that royally annoying and frankly stupid. It's not like nobody has tried to point that out to you, either, and now here you are, accusing someone of pointlessly hijacking threads?

I'd rather read a hijack from a guy trying to be funny with lame jokes, than from a guy who's adamant about letting everyone know he's got sand up his vagina.

We could make them into tags. Or display the taglist. Or make a spoiler-list of stupid memes nobody cares about anymore so the new posters don't post them. Or we could give them training wheels.

Twenty-nine...(counts on fingers)...Morbs has never known a world without Macs in it.

Yeah, that helps with the perspective.

Yeah, that helps with the perspective.

I probably didn't even know what a Mac was until I was 11 or something.

For more perspective: the Cold War ended before I even realized such a thing existed.

My first memories of anything global politics-wise was in 1st grade, when the US fought a war against Saddam-Who's-Sayin' ("Sayin' what?" I always wondered.)

I was a few months shy of 25 before I knew what a Mac was.

When they released them.  With that famous commercial during the Super Bowl.

I don't remember anything about the JFK assassination except from hearing about it years later.  But five years later, I knew enough about politics to realize the grownups were out of their minds trying to get us kids to march for Snoopy for President instead of someone who was actually running and under whose thumb we might have to live.  (Oh, that's right.  You don't remember LBJ, Nixon or George Wallace, certainly not as the leading potential threats to our future well-being.)

You've never known a world where SNL was actually funny.  I on the other hand remember when we thought SNL would never be as entertaining as "The Midnight Special", which is what they replaced with it.

Well, I wasn't there, but I'm well aware of their work. The 60s and 70s were a very dark time in American politics. Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Wallace, McGovern, Carter... ugh.

Yeah, but I've seen the original Blues Brothers, for example.
