I see absolutely no problem with people being allowed to carry a firearm, as long as they are qualified to use it in a correct manner, much like with a motor vehicle. Now I'm pretty sure there will be a plenty of folks who disagree with the latter part...

I have a hard time justifying mandatory training requirements due to our 2nd Amendment, but I would support mandatory training and safety classes in public school, say around late elementary or in junior high. My school did that in elementary (not mandatory though) but I don't believe it's allowed anymore because the gun safety groups don't want gun safety to be taught.

Not mandatory (and they don't use actual firearms) but HS riflery teams definitely cover it (though the kids on a riflery team have already gotten it other places pretty much without exception).

There's that. But, there is also the fear that it will be treated like voter registration. Someone might capture the training process and make it practically impossible to get the required training. Instant back-door gun ban.

Guns are probably great by any means, just be sure not to shoot yourself or a loved one by accident when 'defending' yourself, and it's all peaches.

There's an insurance package just made for me. Run over a bicyclist for free, no deductible for collisions with bicyclists. Maybe a kicker if they were dressed like a banana when you hit them?

Surely if they're in bike lanes they're not in your way and you don't need to hit them? Unless you're just doing it for fun, of course, instead of to save a few seconds on your commute.

I agree with you here. If cyclists want to be taken more seriously as road users then they need to follow the same rules as other road users.

For starters, they retrofitted the bike lanes, which causes all sorts of
in lane placement and shifting that has made the trip more dangerous for everyone.Secondly, no one uses them. Like most downtown areas, ours is surrounded by a shit hole. No one is really brave enough to ride an expenaive bike through the ghetto to get downtown. Also, downtown is staffed by business people, in suits, who have to look presentable and not be a sweaty stinky mess.
The whole bike lane fiasco here has been a clusterfuck.

I rode a motorcycle on a sidewalk once. Though I'd never ridden at the time, had no idea what I was doing, and couldn't control it
. Thankfully it was a dirt bike so the deep ditch that was between the road and the sidewalk I ended up on wasn't really an obstacle.

To pretend it's a serious question...Scooters are usually fine on normal surface streets. They should probably stay off of highways, though.

A lot of highways around here have signs disallowing any vehicle under 10 horsepower, which includes most scooters except those silly Honda Silverwings.

With all their vulnerability, so many don't wear helments, they don't use lights at night, they ride the wrong way or on the wrong side of the road, they pull out without looking, they run red lights, and they pavement-hop like crazy.
And then they blame car drivers when it all goes horribly wrong, and their leg's pointing backwards.

I live about a mile from a university with a cycling team and a velodrome. I see all of the above, all the time. Also, over a hundred bikes blowing through stop signs in front of me. They are like roving packs of bananas on two wheels.
The only time it does not annoy me is when it is the girl's cycling team in front of me. ;)

Well that car on the cross street should have known that a bicyclist was coming across! Those silly stop signs only apply to motorized vehicles!

That's the definition of a moped (actually, it's 50KPH which is about 33MPH, and also a limit of 50CC engine size)
A scooter is any non-geared motorbike, You can actually get geared "mopeds" like the Aprillia RS50. If restricted to 50K then it's a moped otherwise it's a motorbike. It's never a scooter. The Honda Silverwing is a scooter and it's somewhere in the region of 500CC IIRC.
