Kasa-baka and other Yōkai discussions

Continuing the discussion from Mad Hatter Hijinx:
Now now, don't you throw your fancy manager speak around here. I know a parasol if I ever saw one (I never did in real life, I think) and that thing is definitly not even close to being a real parasol demon (I had to click through several images on google because of those stupid reconnects... Why must stealing images from google be so hard?)
It doesn't even have a foot, for crying out loud. How the hell do you think it stands when it is not being held in a hand of a foxgirl(?)?Filed Under: Kids these days don't appreciate the real value of parasol demons!
Reference image for when i change my avatar next...
I assume that it manifests one when not being held. Yokai are generally considered to be at least somewhat fluid in body form.
-
Okay, so here is what actually bothers me the most now that I looked at your picture again:
the eye of this thing is on the inside and the tounge on the outside. That is clearly against all conventions. This ... thing ... should be banned from being an avatar.
If not it should at least get its own hat, monocle and moustache. Also, Why would you want to carry something that is liquid in bodyform? And use it to protect yourself from the sun / water / itself(???) / carry it for no particular reason other than you didn't bring your handbag?
Filed Under: So, what is the most useles demon in your opinion? | <-- First derailing attempt, though it still kind of stays on topic
Addendum: NO, sersiously, the more I look at it the more it seems the artist drew the outside of the parasol and then just added a cane to the wrong side.... look at the shiny parts and all....
-
/me has spent the past 8 minutes trying to work out how to subvert the downlaod full resolution social locker plugin shite.....
source of image if it helps

i don't see it myself. the eye seems to be on the outside. but maybe that is harder to see in the small version....
If not it should at least get its own hat, monocle and moustache
true... it is improperly hatted!
Also, Why would you want to carry something that is liquid in bodyform?
hmmm maybe a language thing. fluid in form. as in the form is changeable. i didn't mean that it was completely liquid.
Think Odo from DS9, but doesn't need to sleep in a bucket, when they sleep they revert to their default from, not a puddle of goo
-
This helps greatly. Now I know it's not only a parasol demon but also a leg demon that is at work here. Clearly those legs are not made for walking.
Filed Under: Is there a leg-demon? | I also refuse to call them Yokai, oder よかい or whatever Kanji is appropriate

I never remember, is it ようかい or よかい?

it's been pointed out that not everyone is a trekkie.....
this dude:

Well it's properly spelled 妖怪 anyway... Wiki spells it "Yōkai" which is Hepburn for ようかい IIRC
-
Wiki spells it "Yōkai"
i'll admit to be lazy. that's the romanization i'm used to and didn't feel like getting the unicode codepoint for that o with a line over it.... sorry?
-
I always end up with wapuro romanization. It lets me be lazy :)

touche.
:-P

This eye is on the outside (and there is a foot!)Let me demonstrate this for you:
Addendum: I didn't credit the tounge as being outside, damn!
-
if the eye is outside why are the bamboo support rods on this side of the eye?
-
if the eye is outside why are the bamboo support rods on this side of the eye?
But thats what I am talking about, it is not on the outside like it should be. It is on the inside. Once this things closes, it is blind (until it magically shapeshifts).
And as the other picture illustrates, it is normal for those things to have the eye on the outside. This leads to one stunning conclusionAddendum: NO, sersiously, the more I look at it the more it seems the artist drew the outside of the parasol and then just added a cane to the wrong side.... look at the shiny parts and all....

Anime sucks.

Meh, I think half of this discussion is just about japanese folklore. Pretty sure one of those parasol demons showed up in Mario 2 for the GB. So there is some Videogame-discussion in here as well.
-

what if the eye is visible on both sides because the color goes all the way through the film?
Filed Under: Do you really not see it that way?? You MIGHT be trolling me.
A lot from column a, a little from column b.

Anime sucks.
<twice>

Point taken
Filed Under: Though there are quite a lot of videogames that benefit from the way animes are laid out

noted, she says while watching anime on the other screen, anything else i should know?
-
Kaiju films are awesome. If you're going to watched something Japanese, watch those. Or those crazy horror movies like Uzumaki. Or Dragon Head. Dragon Head is real weird.
-
what if the eye is visible on both sides because the color goes all the way through the film?
Then where does it look? What does it see?
Also, color goes through? Eyes don't work by being colour. We are back to parasol-demon-anatomy 101 here.
Filed Under: I still think the artist did a mistake and didn't bother to fix it

too much

I should start a thread about some weird stuff nobody watches just to spite y'all. I've started up on Kitchen Nightmares recently, and it ran for like seven seasons, so beware.
Filed under: Ramsay is fun, though

no, but the Kitsune's legs are and dang!
Really?
Hmm…

Ummm.. lady, I think you might want to see a doctor about that left leg of yours.

Doesn't look odd to me; just looks like she's twisting at both hip and ankle.
-
It does look like she's a bit deformed.
-
well she is a kitsune...... one assumes she could have different bone structure than humans.... right?
-
I didn't say she was deformed, but that she looked deformed.
Besides, one assumes nothing when it comes to anything animated from Japan.

The US version, or the original UK series? The UK one probably has better advice on how to run a restaurant, but the American one has MOAR SHOUTING!!1

Though the advice is probably ignored just as much.

@CreatedToDislikeThis.... i saw what you did there....
well played. well played.

If that had deeper meaning than replacing random wapanese words with more familiar ones, that's accidental.
-
so you don't know what your edited title means?
-
I know what baka means. Hence "more familiar".
I have no idea what Kasa means, nor have a particular want to. (But I have a feeling I'll find out anyway)
-
One Piece.
That is all.

I didn't know you were so offended by the word 'umbrella'
-
I have no idea what Kasa means, nor have a particular want to.
A kasa-obake is a mythical japanese demon that has the form of an umbrella.
(But I have a feeling I'll find out anyway)
you are correct!
(unless you never read this post)

You know, we often thing Japanese are weird. And we're right a lot of times.
But damn it, if we had demons as wacky as that in the west I sure would've gone to church more as a kid!
-
You know, we often thing Japanese are weird. And we're right a lot of times.
I'm currently downloading an anime starring three girls named after old Sega consoles.Yes, the Japanese really are that weird.

Yes, the Japanese really are that weird.
Or just extreme geeks.
Wait... which consoles?
Filed under: Is Master System a blonde or brunette?

Wait... which consoles?
Not sure if it's technically anime (also yet to watch it), but it's still Japanese weird.
