Yes, TRWTF is keeping that as my homepage.

it is. pretty much word for word....
i'm guessing Yahoo isn't sending mozilla as much as google was. ;-)

Thank fuck for that!It was the most annoying and downright straight-up shitty appeal bollocks I've ever seen.
Want to guarantee I'll never give you a single penny? Easy: just fill half my screen with a huge fuck-off advert.

yep. oh and have questionable accounting practices questioned and ignore the questions because can.
that really made me feel confident that my money would be well spent.

I'm conflicted about donating to Mozilla. On one hand, I want Webkit/Blink to have some competition apart from Trident. On the other hand, I hate many of their stupid decisions. And FF for Android is complete crap.

TRWTF is still using Firefox.

Yes, but it has this addon which is kinda important on laptops with shitty touchpads.

If I was allowed to use Chrome for more than just testing at work, then I'd use it. However, work mandates IE or FireFox.
...and to make matters worse, until November, that IE choice was IE8.

Chrome Webstore Page: page (taken down by Google, currently being reviewed)
http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/chrome-unsupported-extensions-disabled.jpg
Google bans any Chrome extensions that let you download YouTube videos from their Webstore, and Chrome won't let you install extensions from any other source (or rather, it lets you install them but disables them on next startup ).
And if you don't care about that, there's still the problem that Chrome extensions are basically userscripts, and can't modify the interface like Firefox's can. For example, I can't live without Tree Style Tab

Yes.
Also, TOtherRWTF is using Chrome.
You can't win the browser wars.
-
The browser wars will be winnable as soon as there's an internet standard that more than one browser supports.
Currently, there are a bunch of different internet standards that are each supported by one browser that just look very similar.
-
Just use links and disregard them!
-
I thought the compatibility issues were much less common now. Or is that just HTML5 propaganda?

I thought the compatibility issues were much less common now.
True, but only for standards defined before the dawn of man.

Also true, thanks to every browser supporting a different and incompatible set of Despicable Rights Management schemes.

Doesn't matter.
IE8 is where it's at now.
IE9 if you're all modern and junk.

Translation of headline:Microsoft May Soon Replace Internet Explorer Shell With a New Shell That Looks A Bit Like Chrome (Because Everyone's Making Their Browsers Look Like Chrome) But Will Still Be Trident Underneath So Nothing At All Will Change But Idiots Will Be Fooled Into Thinking It's All-New Because it Looks Like Chrome And They Will Call It Microsoft Chrome Because They Know Fuck-All About Web Browsers; As Long As They Can Watch The Dancing Kitties, They Don't Give A Shit
Hmm... that's a bit long...Microsoft May Soon Give Internet Explorer A New 'Prettier' Frock And A New Name
That's better

I never really understood that. Why would some people have such an objection to making their software give a clear machine-readable statement that they don't support DRM? The insistence on making it so that the question can't even be asked has kept everything stuck far in the past… and to what benefit to anyone, even the fanatics?
-
What does DRM even accomplish? Making more people resort to piracy because the official way to get the product doesn't work?
-

The problem, at least as far as DRM is concerned, is that the RIAA and MPAA (and others) have so much money and lobbying power that, if a browser doesn't support any DRM at all, its market share will very quickly drop to essentially zero. MS, Google and Apple are quite happy to add DRM to their browsers, so for Mozilla and Opera to remain even slightly competitive, they need to support DRM too.
-
What does DRM even accomplish?
It exists to persuade the legitimate owner of the content that their customer can be trusted to consume the copy they've acquired legally. It's a sort of digital safety blanket for big media.

Microsoft to put new lipstick on ugly-ass pig.

Archive.org's doing it now too. Only they're ambitious and want $75.

On my laptop (an old one my dad used to have):
Yeah... if it was any bigger, then I wouldn't even see the fucking article title...

bandwidth. click the lowres for the high rez version.
The high res was already loaded. Discojs reloaded it with a low res version. How does that save bandwidth?
-
Presumably not everyone will click to get the hi-res version.
-
How does that save bandwidth?
for you it doesn't, that's probably to reduce edge cases caused by not reloading posts that get recooked.
-
I've seen it happen on Chrome. Mostly when reviewing changes.

Sucks to be you today? I didn't get that obnoxious banner in Chrome or IE (I tried the latter in case my adblocker suddenly started blocking it).
