The Continuing Bikeshredding of Firefox
-
The announcement to remove the support for complete themes was made two days ago on Firefox's bug tracker, and Mozilla engineers did not specify a date when this would happen. What is known is that Firefox complete themes are definitely out of Firefox's future.
The change is part of Mozilla's 'Great-or-Dead' initiative, which plans to simplify the Firefox codebase and remove features that are not popular. The Firefox community did not respond well to this piece of news, most seeing it as the engineers "chromifying Firefox."
Makes me glad I switched to the Palemoon fork long ago.

I don't much like themes, so it doesn't affect me in the least.
What percentage of Firefox users even use themes anyway?
-
-
@aliceif is going to be mad. And/Or going to need less anti-seizure drugs
-
I haven't used a complete theme since Firefox 4.
-
As long as I can keep my tree-style tabs, I'm happy. I'd like to use a dark complete theme, but so little of my browser window is chrome so I'm fine with a plain old theme.
That said, I don't like the chromification but who cares.

The linked article says:
Mozilla's engineers have announced the removal of Firefox complete themes **as a way to lighten the browser core** and remove a feature they don't see as heavily used anymore.

I do not trust Mozilla to
a) tell the truth
b) know what they're doingAnd if they remove shitty stuff nobody likes, WHY ARE POCKET AND HELLO STILL BUILT-INS?!?!!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

They're shit alright.Make a news collector thing that's even more distant from the sources than Flipboard! And use the old Google logo! Because you're a pile of morons!

Makes me glad I switched to the Palemoon fork long ago.
Last I checked extensions like NoScript, RequestPolicy Continued, Adblock Plus or Vimperator don't work on that fork without rewriting parts of it (or maybe some are). Are you actually using any?

NoScript works out of the box. For Adblock Plus there is a fork called Adblock Latitude. I haven't tried the others though.
-
Keep in mind that Palemoon is really Windows-only.
It does so many things wrong related to Linux that you might as well ignore it entirely for that.

You know, I had to check who posted that twice. That's a very blakey-ish pair of paragraphs…

Fuck Mozilla, Fuck Chrome even more, though
Come, join us!
Nah, not really, it's just Chrome with Speed Dial and mouse gestures.

Pocket
I've used the service since it was called "Read It Later" and I find it very useful, but there's no real reason (aside from the obvious ) to include it as a built-in feature of the browser. Most of my interaction with it is on my phone, and the rest of the time is through a third-party extension in Chrome.

I use
Because I CBA to use anything more sophisticated

When they
killed 12, FUCK THEM ALLcame out with Opera 15 it was actually called "stash".They renamed it back to bookmarks after much whining by users. Also, I think it didn't have folders.

Certainly that cannot be a red panda, also known as firefox.

But did they find your

If I wanted sophisticated I'd use Opera 12. But alas, it doesn't support all the new fancy HTML5 stuff.

They appear to be working with some of the bigger extensions:

They really like pocket:

Question... is the removal of extensions also part of the "Great-or-Dead" initiative? You know, the only reason you'd want to use Firefox instead of Chrome?
-
Makes me glad I switched to the Palemoon fork long ago.
How much dev effort is available for maintaining that fork? As the Mozilla version inexorably diverges, what's it's future?
-
TIL people still use Firefox.

Firefox sucks less than the other browsers, although Mozilla seems determined to change that.
-

I have one theme that I have used for a a long time. It's the only one I've ever found that I like and I consider it a necessity because the default Firefox theme sucks shit.
-
This is bullcrap. The default theme is kind of ugly. The "FT DeepDark" theme makes firefox perfect
