Continuing the discussion from You know you've been spending too much time talking about games on TDWTF when...:
What category is this actually in?
The thread itself claims to be in the top-level category games. It shows up in the general category thread list, in the General Games category. The category dropdown, while in the General category, has General Games listed, but Games does not appear in the list when in any other category. And when you try to visit the category, you get a disco404. There are no key symbols anywhere.
What the hell? Is this, like, Turn Left or something? And if so, why did a thread (jeffed from another thread) leak into my vision?
Paging @boomzilla, who made the split.

How does it even make sense to have a specific category inside one named "General"?
-
a specific category inside one named "General"?
Well obviously it's generally specific.
In this case, threads inside that particular topic are generally specifically about games.
-
Are you saying that @boomzilla is being a bad admin?
-
The Games category is under General and I'm not seeing anything to suggest otherwise?
-
Are you saying that @boomzilla is being a bad admin?
I'm wondering if he's feeling alright. I mean, he's done his job more than once in a couple of hours.
-
Ask @boomzilla, he appears to be the one that jeff'd everything there. And added Games as the only subcategory of "general".
Edit: Not that I think a games category is a bad idea.
-
Oh, now everything's populated in. When I first visited the thread in question, it was in "Games". Not "General > Games", just "Games". Now it claims to be in "General > Games" and I'm starting to see the Games category show up in other places (new thread dropdown, etc).
-
He's just crotchety and hates hearing about all these new-fangled "vidya games". Why, back in his day, you'd entertain yourself by tying up a cat and throwing rocks at it, or making a hoop from a branch and then rolling it down a hill with a stick, and by-gum-it that's what kids today should do!
The fact that video games are a bigger industry than Hollywood and are... actually pretty goddamned mainstream has still not sunk-in for a lot of people.

Just took a while for the table statistics and indexes to update.

do we really need categories though. We just shit post anywhere for any reason. Sidebar is about the only place there appears to be a cohesive theme. On second thoughts having all the posts in one place probably doesn't do much to help keep the Discourse cohesive.

Does "Throw Rocks At Cats Simulator" not exist yet?

Do we need topics? We could have the whole forum as one long Infinitopic™.
Sidebar is about the only place there appears to be a cohesive theme.
Well it appears on the front page, and @apapadimoulis quite rightly gets in a grump when we fuck with that.

Oh, I meant index.json in the site root, sorry for my opaqueness.

still not sunk-in

But are they art?!

Oh man I rewatched that a couple weeks ago. Awesome flick.
I can't find the tweet but I said something like, "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey is the smartest dumb-guy film ever made". I stand by that.
(Although it kind of ruins the Bill and Ted "joke", where two morons just happen to say something so profound that it creates world peace. Bogus Journey makes them literally chosen by God instead... weird.)

The thread itself claims to be in the top-level category games.
Not to me:
It's possible that you need to refresh before you properly see the category? I created a sub-category under General called Games and then Jeff'd the Jeff'd topic there.

Look, I've been doing my job all day. Now you want me to read the whole thread before replying‽

Those darn TL;DR 22-post threads. ;P

Not that I think a games category is a bad idea.
I have to take the blame/credit for that. I flagged to have some game-related discussion moved out of another topic. At the same time, I suggested that since we have a few game topics, a category for it might make sense. I guess @boomzilla agreed, although I hadn't actually noticed the new category yet.
-

I'm surprised no one posted General Specific's picture here yet. Or am I the only one here who's seen this cartoon?
-
So, why is this not General / Specific / Games?
-
IIRC, Discourse only allows one level of nesting. Because raisins. I seem to recall it being discussed back in the early days of DiscoWTF, when there was an idea that a deeper hierarchy might make sense for some categories.

General Specific's picture
i can do colonel panic:
EDIT: forgot general protection fault
