Whispers leaked in reply chain
-
A whisper that's a reply to another post is visible to people who shouldn't be able to see it.
-
-
This is a whisper
-
-
How do you even make a whisper?
-
It's a moderator/admin feature that (because of Discourse's excellent QA) sometimes makes mod-only posts visible to users.
-
Seems to be mods only. Note the gear at the end of the icons:
-
There's nothing to the right of for me.

Quelle surprise!
-
I know.
-
Anyway, this is what I see:
and
Expanding the "will this expand?" reply seems to be stuck on "Loading"

So at least they got that right I guess. It expands for me, but I'm supposed to see them.
-
-
To clarify, I see the quoted box, like in @loopback0's post (but not as pretty), but trying to expand it shows "Loading..."
-
Yes, that's what I understood initially.

Why are you guys STILL helping out Atwood by being the "Free QA Squad"?
-
Quelle surprise!
A new Discourse feature doesn't work properly? Well, at least it's consistent with the existing features.
Filed under: no, seriously, the only thing worse than Discourse is the Discourse development team
-

Nobody's reported it yet. It's probably gonna stay that way...
-
They're still reading these topics, Free Bug Reporting Cub Scout Leader.
-
Maybe we can Google bomb all the bugs so that the top search results for Discourse are the WTDWTF bugs? Surely at least one of us here is an SEO guy...

So, this is the non-beta release yes? The one where they had a feature freeze and focussed on bugfixes for a while before marking it as stable?
Or is it the non-beta release where they went "it's been a while since we upped the version number and this pig has enough lipstick on it to appeal to David Cameron"?
filed under: rhetorical question is rhetorical

I think Jeff despises the perpetual beta thing that was popular several years back due to GMail being in beta for good five years even though it was almost perfectly stable, so went with the opposite approach of "never beta" which means even the buggy and untested releases are marked stable because fuck you, that's why.
-
So, this is the non-beta release yes?
No. We're on beta channel for... reasons? I don't know. I guess switching channels is a pain / involves poking around CLI and requires shell access?
Or maybe @PJH was worried we'd be too bored on stable. You know, the one that's bug free.
-
We're on beta channel for... reasons?
I thought 1.5b1 was the same build as 1.4 final. Either way, whispers were in 1.4 final, so unless they've massively fucked them up in a beta a day or two later...
-
Or maybe unrolling reply chain is Doing It Wrong?
-
Apparently it was fixed already (along with several other issues:

We're also going to mark Whisper as "experimental" for now as it is more complex than originally thought.

That's never happened before...

We missed (for whatever reason) the appearance of 1.4 final. See the docker thread.

Reactions like this are the wind beneath my wings.

On github's web page, it refuses to show the graph of the commits because there are too many forks. I'm not going to close the repo and inspect it to see how different they are. I couldn't find anything specifically about the new beta on fail.d, but the tags (1.4 Final and 1.5b1) were created about 7 minutes apart.

Yeah, they were created for beta 12, which obviously didn't marinate for long enough (and which we skipped here because 1.5b1 came out before we updated).

Discostable

Thanks,, you've been a wonderful audience. I'm here all week. Try the discosauce, it's awful

1.4b12 - 16-Sep:
1.5v1 - 22-Sep:
Not sure where 1.4final is there since there's no commit message with 'bump' in, between those two.

Dang it. Now you made me clone them so I could look up:
-
Not sure I realise the significance of that...
-
The commit message just stuck out to me in one of your screenshots and I had to find out what he did:
- console.log(contentHeight);
-
-
At least he didn't print "dupa".
-
close the repo
If you have the ability, that seems like a very reasonable thing to do actually......
