I actually like that visual style of the old CS. I find new FPS-s usually have too many distracting details and special effects. Fine for an atmospheric single player, but I don't need that in multiplayer.
Also, steam reviews are much more mixed than Blakey would have us believe.

Also, the game seems... kinda shitty, but if it gets the actual CS 1.6 part right, it might be worth it - the original CS goes for what, 10 dollars? Pretty expensive for a 15-year-old game.

Isn't this one of the east Asian ports of the game? I remember playing a version of Counter Strike in an arcade in Japan that bore at best superficial similarity to the PC game.

The people who got duped by the marketing. Pay to win can't work if there aren't enough free players for the paying players to utterly destroy in order to feel good about themselves.
At least, that's what you would conclude from looking at Combat Arms, one of their previous games, and my brother's experience with playing it. There would typically only be one or two people with a 'specialist' per game, and I think they would typically come close to deciding the match...?

I would guess it's "why does a game released two weeks ago look like it was built in 1999?"
That seems to be the thing. I dunno, it doesn't look horrible to me, but it's kind of hard to compare the screenshot provided. They all look better than any game of this sort that I've played (my FPS activity peaked with Doom II).

I've never played any Counter-Strike, but I have learned to ignore graphics quality when judging a game. I've seen too many pricey AAA-games bloated with awesome eye candy, but boring and mediocre gameplay, and I've also seen a decent number of indie games with basic graphics and excellent gameplay.

You're right. It's not desaturated-to-brown, it's not bloomier than a b*****ming florist, and it doesn't have large gameplay interruptions that DEMAND your attention. Clearly it's defective; we must remove all visual distinction and pacing.

I like how the newer version uses bricks in the wall instead of stucco or whatever to cover it.
Yeah...I opened them in their own browsers, and I guess the quality issues are more noticeable when you see them full sized.
I was right about not caring about any of it, though.

By the way, if it wasn't obvious, Counter-Strike Nexon Zombies is based on the GoldSrc (or Half-Life 1) engine.
I actually like that visual style of the old CS. I find new FPS-s usually have too many distracting details and special effects.
Funny story. Team Fortress 2 started out with an extremely simple design... you might see some props on walls and things, but space was mostly pretty empty. Character and world designs were done to look like J.C Leyendecker illustrations using Phong shading and reflection.
Then Valve added hats to player models. Which was OK, as they still fit the game's art style.
Then Valve added items to the game that you needed to buy in-game keys to open. To encourage people to open them, they had to add in a rare reward... hats with particle effects attached to them! Whoops, there went the simple design...
Once they took that first step, it just kept going... and going... until we arrive at present day where it's normal to fire laser guns or have weapons that cause players eyes to have funky glows and only weird particles if you get 5 or more kills in one life. And to have maps like koth_king, which is designed to look like the downtown area of a Chinese city, complete with street lights, business signs, and other crap.

Which, amusingly, makes it look a lot like many Chinese games. The ones that aren't built using the HL1 engine, at least.
Nexon Zombies looks like HL1 because it's designed to run on literal toasters.

However, "keep(est) operating" seems to be a relatively modern idiom. However, use of thou would likely have been at least somewhat archaic by the time the newfangled keep doing idiom came into common use. Therefore, the use of "keep operating" in conjunction with thou is a bit disconcerting; it seems anachronistic.
Finally, that particular picture is also at least a little anachronistic; it lies in the no-man's-land between the period when thee and thou were common and the first attested use of keep doing in 1800. It is a self-portrait by Joseph Ducreux, and was painted about 1793. It is also worth noting that Ducreux would not have used any of the words thee, thou or keep(est) operating, as he was French.

Interesting. Chrome 38 (and at least 37, if not older) on Windows 7, drag-selecting the text causes the text to be de-spoiled:
I discovered this quite a while ago when people were spoiling links I really didn't want to click on. It's been a while, but I think I was probably selecting the text to "quote reply" just so I could read the text in the editor, only to find I didn't need to start a reply; just highlighting it was sufficient to read the text.

Fun fact: When you die in CS 1.6, you fall on the ground, and your feet point towards where the killer shot came from. This little detail was the reason why my brother was getting banned under suspicion of wallhacking.

No. My brother was simply awesome. He spent like five years playing CS, and his aim and reflexes were so good he was banned "for cheating" on regular basis.
