TLDR: Can I LinkedIn your perl script to stop it Facebooking?
Context:
The Service Desk (who are presumed to be, but tend not to be, somewhat technically competent) were asked to run an in-house bash script to collect some diagnostics data from a remote box that was having problems.
Part of the script's job is to (unless asked otherwise) upload the output to a server and IIF that happens, the output is deleted locally.
Otherwise it's left lying around, and
- a message output to indicate that fact and
- an instruction to manually upload it somewhere is given.
The issue:
This particular 1st level tech decided to go spelunking in the script:
I noticed that the script creates the file but soon deletes it afterwards, would it be benficial to hashtag the delete command?
-
You killed him, right? Otherwise, you're part of the problem.

Unfortunately this is still not a thing. He's a pond and at least 5 timezones away from me.

output to a server and IIF that happen
I could have sworn the abbreviation for that was IFF

It is. And I looked it up because I wasn't sure. And I still got it wrong....

I am suddenly less opposed to USA gun laws. Amazing.

You're thinking of the VB/VBA function for the ternary operator, the one that doesn't short-circuit so it's generally useless except for literal values.
-
You're thinking of the VB/VBA function for the ternary operator...
Given the context, I'm fairly certain that one thing I certainly wasn't doing was thinking of that.
-
hashtag the delete command
Oh, I so need to start using that with my colleagues. Provided I hide the sharp things nearby first…

Indeed. So glad that VB .NET has
If()
now.

I've helped a little with that...

I was just going to say the same thing. Guess they never designed for that?
Also, for some reason, I ended up with this in the console log:
unknown topic bus message type Object notification_level_change: 0 __proto__: Object

Has to do with having to require to verify the account again I guess - if the account isn't verified it technically doesn't exist I guess...

Something like that, I guess:
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://what.thedailywtf.com/users/the_real_wtf.json?_=1414515406626

Aww, he was the most fun we've had for a while.
I'm sure it won't take too long for them to come back and moan about 'the mods' - they'd already created one sockpuppet.

New @SockBot feature request: The ability to pester known trolls!
-
Yes master Connoisseur of Forum Likes, I shall appear as summoned.
-
-
With Markov chains of their own posts.
In this case, I think the Markov posts would be indistinguishable from the troll posts.

Yes mistress bator, I shall appear as summoned.

@accalia THIS IS NOT COOL
-
What? 'Maths Debater' spelt wrongly?
-
With Markov chains of their own posts.
Wouldn't that be kinda difficult? I mean you only have a few posts to mine so you'd quite possibly just be spewing the post back at them.

This is one reason all the new pronouns are silly: they're not enough. Now you need a gender-neutral term for "mistress" too, and probably a billion other nouns.
-
I verb lots of nouns all the time.
-
Seems to work well with @Zoidberg
-
Yeah, but did you ever play Jenga? Sometimes you take out one and... [imitates crashing]
-
-
I see no issues here.

Necro time.

I was about to add this to UD, but found I'd been 'd.
A word consisting of two or more words mashed together to form an annoying and unnecessary addition to the lexicon. The worst offenders in this trend are ad agencies and urbandictionary.com users.
