I know it's similar to what I recently posted, I'm editing something I recently posted to fix a typo.

We should make a new category for threads: "Discourse Bugs"
Edit: it's been done.

I think that word does not mean what you think it means.

At the moment I think this forum could be renamed to the "Discourse Bugs Form".

I agree, it's a horrible bug but I look at the code and the code says "I won't do that check if it's the same post!" but then I go and use it and it turns out the code is lying and I don't know how to fix it.
Until someone smarter than me figures it out, do this:
<!-- workaround -->

This may happen if you're only adding whitespace to a post.

Yeah I was trying to fix a misplaced space.
Cool to make your acquaintance, Jeff. You'll have to excuse the guys, they're a bit coarse and unforgiving because they're fighting for alpha nerd dominance in this new world. Overall I think your software has a lot of jagged edges still but I see potential. If you could make infinite scroll a user preference instead of the only method available, you'd kill most of the dissent.

It should be called "Discourse Stress Testing" where the "stress" part applies to the devs reading it. >:)

Man, I think I just cut my dick on one of those edges.

Yes, this place is about 95% aggressive trolls who are not afraid to speak their minds with great hyperbole.

You're a subhuman piece of garbage and I hope your face gets eaten by rabid ferrets.

You mean there are people here who aren't aggressive trolls?

The spammers, but they only live about 15 minutes. And probably @apapadimoulis himself, but by keeping TDWTF open he's an enabler to all the aggressive trolls so I suppose he's just as guilty.

Even aggressive trolls can be nice... right?

Sadly, this appears to be untrue today. There are a couple of spam posts in General Discussion that have been there rather longer. I guess all the mods are busy over here.

Looks like they've been taken care of now. I'm usually pretty good at nabbing the spam, but as you said, everyone is over here today. Including me and Pesto, who are mods over there but not here, due to some kind of tragic oversight.

As you participate more, you will gain trust levels naturally. At TL3 for example, you gain the ability to edit topic titles and change topic category.

Valve's greatest mistake was not fully embracing the Half-Life title. Each game should be 50% worse than the preceeding one.

Every game was ~50% shorter than the previous one, I think.

That can't be right. Sure, HL2EP1 and HL2EP2 were shorter than HL2, but HL2LC was much shorter than either of the episodes, and Lost Coast was released before EP1. Then there's the fact that there were three HL1 games and four HL2 games so far, with the first HL2 being about the same length as the first HL1*.

Lost Coast
Lost Coast is officially not part of the Half-Life games. It was a removed level.

To my eternal shame, I was not actually able to beat the Nihilanth. Eventually I gave up.
-
Every time I get close to beating a Half-Life game my PC goes belly-up and I lose my savegames to a system wipe/OS re-install.

Does Half Life not support Steam cloud saves?

I found it very interesting turning on noclip and exploring the levels, way back when. It taught me a lot about level design. Until then, I had been totally taken by the idea that I was in this huge compound being allowed to explore. When I was able to fly around each unreachable area and see that the level doesn't actually continue there, I realized that I was being railroaded down a linear path, but so masterfully I didn't realize it was happening.
Doubleplusgood.

Yeah, noclip was awesome. You could hide in the walls and be un-hurtable, usually.

Why not just use

What's

What's
noclip
, then?Legitimate. The resonance cascade gave Gordon Freeman the ability to sometimes walk through walls, sometimes.
It did not make him immortal.
