Change clickable edit-revisions
-
So, since most people on this board are total wusses who could not stand to any edits they do to their posts (or they have not discovered the option to show revisions of edits in the preferences) I always get confused on edited posts.
I sometimes do want to see the unedited version because people seemingly replied to them without quoting or something like that.
It took me a while that a colored pencil does in fact NOT mean you can see the edit history but means the edit was recent (or something).
Could any admin just edit the CSS to do something to pencils that are in fact clickable?Filed Under: Might seem useless to many but I still want it :D | Might also be more of a meta than a bug but screw the rules I have no clue! | Leaders could move this into the correct category...
Addendum: Better mention @PJH for more efficient usage of mentions

Fun fact, editing your own topic bumps it to the top of the list, but another person editing your topic leaves it where it is.
-
You wouldn't be able to do anything special with text colors, due to the heatmap CSS stuff, but otherwise you can twink the "edit pencil" styles via:
.edits a { /* These are edit pencils that can be clicked to view edit history*/ } .edits span { /* These are edit pencils that can't be clicked */ }
-
I saw that bumping, too.
Is there a limit on edits for OPs?By another person editing, do you mean an admin / mod / leader editing the title?
Filed Under: I would never abuse that, obviously
-
He means editing your own post. Editing the last post in a topic stealth bumps it. Also mentioned here:

Yes. I'll hang fire because (a) I'm mobile and (b) I see others suggesting CSS so will save me the effort...

Usual edit limit which was brought down to 24 hrs IIRC.
-

Ok, so I skimmed a bit too quickly; it was just the selectors...
Suggestions for how to make them different? Underline seems a bit naff.
Undiscoverable heatmap/random colors?
6px border if clickable?
display:none
or barely visible grey if not clickable?
-
Undiscoverable heatmap/random colors?
The heatmap styles prevent you from doing colors because they end up being the most specific. When I get to a keyboard, I can check to see if there's a selector that's more specific and beats their CSS.
I just hate that they love using !important on those.
-
Because they don't know how to do it properly.

Wait... they're using
!important
on the site sheets? WTF?Bug needs to be raised fer that one methinks...
-
They're using it for a bunch of color styles related to areas the heat/coldmaps affect, even on the base styles before the heat/coldmap styles would be involved.
I haven't looked over their stylesheets in whole to see if they're using it all over, though. I just saw that one instance because I was looking to disable the heat/coldmap styles myself.

Thus far in my messing around with FF's inspector I've seen little use of important so I'm guessing this is a new development...

Sweet, they break everyone's ability to customize their site unless you also use !important and can guarantee your css is after their css.

@PJH just tested this in Chrome (put in Stylish, refreshed the page, appears to take precedence) and it appears to work if you want to do custom colors for "edit history can be viewed" vs. "edit history can't be viewed", and screw the "heatmap":
div.edits a, div.edits a[class] { color:#0f0 !important; } div.edits span, div.edits span[class] { color:#0ff !important; }
I, of course, wouldn't do those colors, but it's just to show it works.

User-specified !important should always supersede site-specified. If it doesn't, it's a serious browser bug.
-
It goes (higher numbers override lower numbers):
- User-agent styles
- Stylesheets
- Inline styles
- Inline !important
- Stylesheet !important
- User-agent !important
(I think)
-
/* Differentiate between clickable and non-clickable pencil icons top right of posts */ .edits a { color: #fe7a15 !important;} .edits span { color: #555 !important; }
Comments?

You'll probably want to use the "more specific" selectors as I have in this post:
div.edits a, div.edits a[class] { /* this is for viewable edit history / }
div.edits span, div.edits span[class] { / this is for non-viewable edit history */ }Otherwise, any edits that have "heatmaps" apply override your color styles:
Bottom is the heatmap taking precedence over your style, the top is with the more specific selectors taking precedence over the heatmap.

On this post:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/change-clickable-edit-revisions/2241/11?u=vinduv
I get no space between the "reply to PJH" and "1 edit" icons. I think it worked before.
(This is on Firefox 31)
-
That is a different bug, and not local to just Firefox.
Appears to be that they change the position of the "in-reply-to" based on how wide the page is (specifically, they have width, defined on ".container", and right position of the in-reply-to, defined on ".post-cloak .reply-to-tab", that change based on the width of your browser).
Custom style fix:
.post-cloak .reply-to-tab { right: 440px; }
There are probably a bunch of other issues they have due to having a lot of styles conditional on the width of the browser window.

Done.

That's part of the default site CSS, and doesn't appear to be anything I've introduced: http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/change-clickable-edit-revisions/2241/11?preview-style=default

```
div.edits a, div.edits a[class] { color:#0f0 !important; }
div.edits span, div.edits span[class] { color:#0ff !important; }Missed one apparently - closed topics. Current CSS fixing it: ```css /* Differentiate between clickable and non-clickable pencil icons top right of posts */ div.post-info.edits a, div.edits a, div.edits a[class] { color: #fe7a15 !important; } div.post-info.edits span, div.edits span, div.edits span[class] { color: #555 !important; }
