QuickStart Basic Security Wizard for UMD V1.1.35

  • This is a WTF program. I am sure you can find TRWTF a lot.

  • By "this", I thought you meant the Forth program in your sig.  I was having a pretty hard time, because it seemed OK to me.

Read that thread from the top. It's a pretty void-for-brains thing.

  •  Well I read it as a "QuickBasic Security Wizard", so what security problems can a DOS programming language introduce?

Back in the 1990s I had written a program that was so big the QB4.5 linker couldn't finish compiling it. Somehow I got the linker from VBDOS and it could do it. Back in my high school days and 64KB of strings seemed like "enough".

  • I would try to read through it and see what it actually does but I just can't stomach all the obnoxious "Hungarian".  I really want to hurt the people who still write this crap.

My current project involves an app that was developed from the ground up. I did half of the thing, the other half was made by a .NET dude. The result was that when he was laid off, I inherited a heapload of WTF code, all in Hungarian Notation. My head aches everytime I read that code!

  • I absolutely love this comment in the script:

"'THE MOST UGLY-ASS KLUDGE IN THE WORLD"

I think that comment pretty much very well describes the script as a whole.

Must be cuz it won't run in Lynx or Konqueror  :(

  • What to mean by "this"

I meant the page I linked to on another forum site. The Forth program in my sig is not a complete program, it is just an example of how you can define IF and THEN command in Forth (my Forth systems use absolute jumps instead of relative), nothing to do with WTF or with this thread.

  •  Wow, that's...funny, I guess.  I just had to deal with this very script for the past four years (just graduated from this very college). Basically, if you live on-campus, and you're using ResNet (your computer is hooked up to their residential network), you have to "verify" your computer before they allow you Internet access beyond their verification page.  However, if you have Linux, verification essentially amounts to clicking "I have Linux" for which they have no verification program, and then you're on your merry way.  Even if you dual-boot back into Windows, your comp is already verified, so you're set.

And don't get me started on why you can't have wireless on ResNet.  One connection per roommate, and it must be a PC or Mac.  No consoles or anything.  Unless, of course, you have set up NAT so they can't tell the difference, and hide your router so they can't find you.
