    Yes, let's!

    Thread rules:

    • Post your dream logs here. Try to keep dream derailments less than two pages long (to allow the next dreemmur to arrive).
    • Try to keep it T-rated. No gore, explicit sex, etc. We have other places to fantasize about that kind of stuff. 😉
    • Don't harp too harshly on unrealisticalities. It's a frickin dream FFS!
    • See the title? See how there is no 🔥? Let's keep it that way!

Filed under: OMG my keyboard autocorrected all the "lets" into"let's"!

Unless "teens ohne kleider" counts as "T-rated"?

    Y'all are worrying me...

A few weeks ago I had a dream that was similar to this, which involved me driving a car down a road crossing over rolling hills, late at night, with almost no lights around. There was a stoplight with literally no one coming from any direction for at least a mile that just turned yellow, so I was like "oh fuck that" and blew the light, but as I was going up another hill a cop pulls up to a second intersection up ahead and I slowed down 'cause I was speeding up the hill. The cop turned onto the road I was on, going the other way, I passed him at the speed limit, but a few seconds later he flipped on his lights and flipped around like a scene out of fucking Super Troopers. So he pulled me over for no reason that he should know about and I got in a snark-filled argument with him about how I was going the speed limit and he had no reason to pull me over. He asked me to step out of the car and put my hands on the car. Then shit went futuristic and he put some sort of floating magnetic handcuffs on me and attached me to the hood of the car by my wrists. And then after the cop patted me down a bit, my dream got even less benign and decidedly not rated T. This is the thread where we don't interpret dreams, right?

Also, if I have really vivid dreams that I remember past my alarm going off, I'll open up my phone's Memo app as soon as I wake up and blearily write down what I dreamed. That previous dream was recent enough and vivid enough that I could expand my still-half-asleep-self's writings into an actual story. But, last September I apparently had another dream which I no longer remember at all, so, instead of translating my still-half-asleep writing into a story, here is the memo I wrote about this dream, unaltered:

    Stranded on an island?
    Furries
Some sort of conspiracy going on
Random contest between native shark and visitor, dragon joins in

Now that I've written it out again, I seem to recall that the contest may have been something also not-T-rated. Or maybe it was pushing the bounds of T rating. Or something. I remember that it was *ahem* fun to watch, at least. Maybe they were scantily clad? I still don't recall the details.

Ooh, and here's one that's actually like completely T rated for sure, because I still vaguely remember this one despite it being from last July. But not enough to make a good story out of it, so here's my notes again:

End of the world scenario w/terrorists of some sort

Well, first, I do remember enough to provide a better description of the setting and the start. So it's some sort of post-apocalyptic place and I'm in some desert with canyons and shit and there's this settlement built in the wreckage of another town in one of the canyons and the settlement could really use electricity, so me and a generic dream friend go with one of my IRL dogs to figure out how to get the power plant running.

Found way to major power station in movie style arizona desert area

Terrorists shut down power plant remotely, take friend and $DogNumber2Name (where'd $DogNumber1Name go?) On UPS truck or something

Contact from mom, said dad and "emmanuel" got (almost?) captured by hostiles who "said they would ENSLAVE him!"

Get to hospital, have to cut through for some reason, wake up while waiting for a bunch of old people in wheelchairs to pass by and checking phone - just about to properly read texts from mom

driving a truck down the highway?

Those usually involve the vehicle being out of control and fear of going into the ditch for me. I started having fewer when I actually started driving a lot, oddly enough. Another recurring type is where I jump to catch something in the air and gravity has a brown-out or something such that I end up 20 feet in the air, slowly floating down while scared to death of smashing into the ground when gravity turns back on.

I had a dream once where I drove a car through a stadium of some kind. It was round, and there was actually some kind of spiral ramp. I don't remember why I was doing it.

In other news, one morning I woke up. I looked at the alarm clock and shut it off. Then I looked at the window, lit in a vaguely golden hue by the morning sunlight. I then went to the restroom, where I shaved the parts of my face which I don't want to have a beard on. Then I brushed my teeth. Then I took off my pajamas, and got in the shower, where I washed myself, particularly my fantastic head of hair and beard. Then I got out, dressed, and put on deodorant. I put some gel in my hair and styled it. Then I got my phone, wallet, a pen, etc., and grabbed my school bag. I went downstairs, grabbed my keys off the key hook, and left the house locking the door behind me. I got in my truck, closed the door, put the key in the ignition, but stopped before turning the key, thinking I was forgetting something.

    Then I woke up.

    Okay! We're making progress!

TBH the particular scenario that I mentioned (that of driving a truck down a highway) did not get properly transcribed back to memory.

From what I can tell, I was driving with at least one other person (Me as the driver). I entered some kind of (train?) depot and was trying to find a place to park the trailer I was pulling. After having done so (and exiting the truck), another truck (pulling a trailer) clipped through the other ones around me and rammed into mine, tipping it over and opening the back. Short chaos ensues, in which I end up entering the damaged trailer to recover objects and then scene transition to whatever happened next.

My days usually aren't that difficult to start, but at the time I did not particularly enjoy anything about my school day, so I had a bit harder time getting out of bed in the dream than I made it seem when I wrote that.

    But yes, fuck you, brain.

I basically woke up and immediately nerdraged at my brain for doing that. Thankfully I've only had it happen that vividly once, about three years ago. Usually when I have that dream it's vague and doesn't feel like real-time. That time... 100% real time. Completely vivid. Fucking torture.

  • Trolleybus Mechanic

There was this recurring thing in my dreams, and I only recently figured out the mechanics of it.

So many times in dreams, I'll need to walk or run somewhere. But every step is so labored. It's like it's impossible to take a step. And worse it's like I can't even get my footing. Like literally I take the first step, but the next step doesn't touch the ground. I can't get traction to take the next step. And when I do, it's just the cycle repeated-- trying to take a step, barely getting any forward momentum despite so much effort, and not getting any traction for the next step. It's like gravity isn't working right for me.

On a rare occasion I'll get the bright idea to walk backwards-- because then I can push off hard and do leaps and bounds. I could feel the velocity vector was so much better going "backwards", and in-dream it made sense. Get a good footing on my heels, of course it's easy to throw myself backwards.

It's plagued me since I was a kid. I'll be in a dream, half-way down the street. And up ahead, at the end of the street-- there's my bus. I need to catch it. I need to run and catch that bus. Try to run, but can't. Try to step by can't. Like my backpack is filled with rocks. No matter how hard I struggle, I just simply can't run. The scenario was always different-- trying to catch a ride, to leave the house, to go somewhere anywhere-- but physically incapable of moving with ease.

And then, just this year even, it finally came to me.

I was laying in bed. Tired, but not asleep. On my back, just kinda staring at nothing. Thinking, as one often does. A bit tense, so I focus on relaxing my muscles. Let the tension drain from my forehead, my shoulders, my arms. Then I notice my ankles are still stiff. I focus solely on my legs, and for no reason, try to lift one of them.

That's an odd feeling. I don't have a lot of energy, because I'm so tired. Lifting my leg is hard work. But it isn't just because I'm tired. It's also because I'm on my back, so gravity is pulling me down. And of course I have the sheets on, so there's a weight pushing me "back". The sensation is so familiar, and the it connects. I bet in those dreams, I am literally trying to take a step forward. Why does it feel like something's pushing me backwards? Because my "backwards" in the dream is standing up-- but my actual body is feeling it pull me "down". There's a disconnect, but it makes perfect sense. Why can't I move my legs forward without such effort? Because I'm not moving them "forward", I'm moving them "up". So yeah, I do have 9.8m/s pushing "backwards" against me. I can't get a footing because there's nothing underfoot-- I'm toes up. But I can dig in my heels just fine.

The dream scenario still happens, but at least now I know why.

Oh, and I had another dream that really fucked me up for days and still depresses me every time I think about it.

Okay, so, I'm walking around my university campus and it's early winter and I get a phone call. I answer, and it's my doctor, saying that the tests came back and I have brain cancer and I've got about three weeks to live. I have to stop and go into a corner to quietly freak out for a bit before calling my family.

@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Don't-Interpret-My-Dreams Thread:

and then scene transition to whatever happened next.

So I'm out with a female friend of mine and I tell her I'm going to die and she consoles me for a while and then says, "Well, fuck that, if you're going to die, you should go out on your own terms" or something to that effect, and I'm like, "Yeah, you're right."

@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Don't-Interpret-My-Dreams Thread:

and then scene transition to whatever happened next.

So now it's been some significant length of time and I could die any day now, and I'm in the master bedroom of my paternal grandmother's house (a house in which I spent a good deal of my childhood since my grandmother often babysat me while my parents were at work, and my dad actually owned the family business operating out of that house).

I have a handgun, and I'm going to go out on my terms. I put the gun to my temple and pull the trigger. The gun goes off and leaves a small hole in the side of my head, but I'm still alive for some reason. As I'm confusedly trying to figure out how I'm still alive and all that's different is I have a little hole in my head that's barely visible through my hair, there's a knock on the door. My mom wants me to come out into the living room. So I go out there, and my whole family's there and they have the place all decorated for Christmas even though it's only like October. They say they wanted to celebrate it early with me. And I'm just standing there in the doorway thinking "Well, fuck, I just shot myself in the head, what a selfish bastard I am. These people deserve better than me."

I'm usually the one that hands out presents on Christmas, so I start doing that, and early Christmas goes great for a while. I got cool presents, my family all got cool presents, and the atmosphere is generally really happy. And then I start getting lightheaded, and my speech is a bit slower. I hand off the present I'm holding to the person it's supposed to go to, and then sort of stumble across the room and sit in the far corner of my grandma's couch, where I usually sit, but the lightheadedness doesn't go away and I actually start getting more dizzy. As the merriment continues around me, the person opening the present talking excitedly about how thankful they are for their present, my eyes slowly drift closed.

Then I open my eyes in my bed.

And for the first time in years I have to repeatedly tell myself it was only a dream before I am able to get out of bed and start my day.

@kt_ And that was the second time I died in a dream.

Yeah, I've had those too. Usually it's me running, then skipping, then just concentrating on not touching down. It's like when you're prolonging a sneeze. You know you will eventually touch down-- it's beyond your control-- but you can WILL yourself to hold on, hold on, hold on... (inb4 :giggity: )

In effect, I stop feeling the downward pull of gravity beneath my feet.

Thinking about it, it's probably the same thing as "not running". I don't feel the pull of gravity, and can freely move my feet without touching the ground-- because "down" isn't actually down, and I CAN move my feet.

The dream I remember best is one I had in my senior year of high school. I woke up, looked at my clock and noticed that I was late for a handball game in another town. I quickly grabbed my stuff, and told my father to drive me to the gym where we always met. There was nobody there, so I asked my father to hurry and drive there. He refused, telling me that we were too late anyway and that it would be pointless.

When I woke up the next day, I was incredibly angry at my father, and asked him why he didn't drive me to the game. His very perplexed reply: "What are you talking about? It's Saturday, not Sunday and we still have two hours until we have to go."

My brain had convinced me that the day I just dreamed about had actually happened.

@Tsaukpaetra Ah, okay. In that case, my similar dream and my theory:

I dream about being on a carpet, wearing non-slip socks, trying to move forward, but only being able to move very slowly. There's something that vaguely looks like a crocodile behind me, which tries to bite me, and always gets me in the end. (I get increasingly terrified while it catches up, then I "feel" something on my legs and wake up.)

I thought about it for a while, and am now convinced that this is some form of suppressed memory from my early childhood, when I learned to walk. And that this thing behind me that tried to grab/bite me may actually be my parents. The crocodile I'm seeing may be a stuffed animal I had as a kid.

The gun goes off and leaves a small hole in the side of my head, but I'm still alive for some reason.

I had a dream like that, where I tried to shoot myself, but the bullet lodged in my ample bosom instead, so I was trying to figure out how to get it out and also how to finish killing myself. My mom was oddly unconcerned about the whole thing.

Most of my dreams are easy to interpret: I have vivid, frantic dreams that stick with me when I'm anxious, which is always. I call them "anxiety-dreams". My teeth fall out, or I'm trying to drive from the backseat or I can't reach the pedals... I think a lot of my dreams harken back to early childhood in an attempt to make sense of the anxiety I feel.

But they're mostly like this dream I had last night:

I forget the beginning, but then my tooth was hurting, and I finally decided to go to the dentist. In reality, my dentist has opened her new practice that I haven't been to yet, so in my dream, she had taken over an abandoned Shell gas station. So I drive up to the parking lot, which is the waiting room, and I tell the guy I need to get something done about my tooth, but I don't have money right now so it'll have to be added to my existing payment plan. And the guy says that's fine, just pull over here and wait. He calls me back, and I drive my car around to a pump, realizing that they're going to use my driver's seat as a dentist chair. Sure, why not.

Then the dream shifts a bit and there's something going on with emotions, like, they've taken away all but one emotion per person. I'm with this bitchy high school popular girl in the car, and we're trying to get enough emotions between us to escape. There's a thing where the pump is showing three random emotions instead of three prices, and after you choose one you have to take a little quiz to earn it. So we decide we're going to fill up her six emotion slots, then she'd work on a plan while we do mine. I give her mine to get started, and we managed to get the pump to display Hope which is a great one for our escape planning, so we get her filled up. Then I realize, if you screw up the quiz, it takes one away, and I've got none now, so I've screwed myself over. So I go hit the randomizer, and I hit it a bunch of times but all the emotions are crap, like "Fear (of the unknown with a side of anxiety)" or seven kinds of sadness. So I hit one at random and it said "Prisoner", and the quiz was a quiz about our situation. We'd changed pumps at one point to see if the randomizer was better over there; question one was "What is your room and pump number", and I was freaking out because I couldn't remember. Something with an E in it? Was it two letters or three? The pump was maybe 6? Maybe 4? So I panic and hit one and random, and I fail the quiz... and it says "you are dead". And everything starts to fade while I'm all "Well crap, I suck at this game."

I think I woke up, rolled over, and fell asleep thinking about a conversation I had yesterday about arthritis and exercises to help with it. I'm recounting the tail end of the conversation and I'm climbing stairs, which I never used to be able to do easily (but can do a little now). These stairs are outside: big grey granite stairs going up a mountain. I'm with my mother and brother, and Mom is excited because she wants to show me the really pretty town of Carmel (a place I've been in real life a few times and which is not on a mountain). She's glad I can handle the stairs to go over the mountain instead of around or through. So we go up and up, a whole bunch of steps, and I have to admit it's a pretty mountain, even if it's annoying to climb so high. She texts the plan to my dad, who reminds her there's a fee to go through Palo Alto or Fremont on the way down (none of which is near Carmel or on mountains). She says oops, oh well, she'll pay it, it's worth it.

So we come to the top of the mountain and we're starting to go down. And we end up on the bright red roof of a tall building, like, the mountain was very steep and the roof is at ground level at the top while the basement is ground level where it's built. So we have to get down from there. Mom jumps without question, and says it's fine, it's just under the threshold to cause damage, but I'm not sure, so my brother and I start climbing to a lower terrace to jump down from. And we have to do this a few times, we're passing through this little town built like this. At some point I look around and realize some of the buildings are missing a wall and I can see right into them, and they're filled with Minecraft structures and mobs and such.

It starts to get dark and we're worried about the mobs, so we camp for the night, picking up lego coins on the way (and there's now a coin and hearts counter overlayed on my vision). I pick up a Written Book, thinking ooh, the mapmaker probably left instructions in here. And it turns out to be a Field Guide to the whole area, explaining various rooms and mobs. And the mobs...

There's one that's literally a Xenomorph; it's trapped behind a counter like a bartender, but it apparenty has tentacles so it's dangerous anyway. This is the advanced form of another mob which looks kind of like a Grey or something, a freaky alien, and it drops a skull as loot. There's this slime monster that's long and goopy with eyeballs floating in it, and that comes in three sizes. These things are super dangerous, and my brother and friends are wandering around without a care in the world, having no idea it's dangerous. There's something involving sheep that have traits on them, if we can find a Speedy sheep we could maybe escape, but I keep grabbing the one with Mining+ instead, which is useless on a sheep. There's also locked chests, but I can pick them if I use a shovel, it just takes longer than using a key. But to get keys we'd have to kill the dangerous mobs.

So I convey most of this and we decide to flee before we piss off something dangerous. We pick the nearest chests and then start to run down the hillside again. I think I woke up around here.

Last night I had a dream that I mostly forgot upon waking up, but here is what I do remember:

So I've gone to a furry convention and I'm about to go to one of the late-night dances.

But before I left to go to the convention, I forgot to put my capsule poi back in my bag, and they're still sitting on the banister at my house, right where I left them IRL.

And poi is the only form of dance which I'm not 100% shit at.

@Yamikuronue Dreams with video game aspects are usually fun for me.

Some years ago I had a dream set on a school campus that was mostly my first high school, back in Arizona, with some hints of the community college I started my higher education at.

My high school had big fences to keep kids from sneaking off campus (kind of like a prison really), which made it the perfect place for a zombie survival dream. Thousands of zombies outside the fences. The main area of the campus was a parkway about a hundred yards long and thirty or forty wide, bounded on both front and back by big gates in the fence, with the food court/cafeteria on one side and the administrative building on the other. I start the dream in the outdoor covered part of the food court, and I look around at a bunch of other students in the area, and the zombies clawing at the fences. We're pretty safe, though; the fences are thick iron or something and they'll hold up to a lot of torture. So I go in and get some chips from the food court and walk around the campus to figure out where else there might be entry points. Behind the cafeteria is a fenced-in J-shaped walkway with Texas oak trees and shit all over it and sunlight pouring through the leaves. The walkway is going from the cafeteria wing of the building to the wing with all of the band rooms and stuff, and that's just got a shoulder-high brick wall topped with a chain link fence built into the wall. I note that weak point and continue on to the band room, where a bunch of people I was in marching band with at various schools throughout high school are gathered, discussing the situation.

scene change to whatever happened next

So we'd survived for like three days just eating off the stuff in the cafeteria, and then we hear a scream from the little gate by the far end of the admin building, leading to the courtyard in between the other classroom buildings. Someone either opened the gate or it broke open and zombies are streaming in. Everyone starts pouring from the parkway area into the cafeteria and into the foyer in the front of the building, between the cafeteria and band wings (across the building from the weird community college walkway), but the zombies are going to catch up to most everyone there, so I take the shortcut with a few other band members and a handful of zombies, heading for the band room. As I burst into the hallway, the way into the foyer opens up as well and the zombies are coming. Me and two other band geeks are running into the band room, but one of them gets picked off just before we reach the door. Me and the other remaining survivor barricade the door with a bunch of the bigger instruments, but those cases are pretty smooth and they'll prove relatively easy to knock over with enough force from the zombies. As the zombies pour into the band room, me and the other survive run to the side, where a door leads to the room where all the chairs are stored. We make it inside and wedge one of the chairs under the door handle, but we know this is a futile gesture at this point, and we just sit, trapped, in the storage closet until the zombies break in. The other guy's closer to the door, and he gets eaten first. Just as he dies, everything stops and a big gold medal with #1 in the middle appears over me. I survived the longest, so I won the round.

The next round begins, and I look around at the massive parking lot behind the school. I'm a good half mile away from the fences, and the zombies are looking around, too. Several of them spot me, and a few other poor suckers unlucky enough to spawn outside the gates. We start running for storage sheds by the various sports fields, and I make it into one that has a bunch of elementary-school-ish PE equipment: hula hoops, dodgeballs, kickballs, etc., locking the door and piling all this crap in front of it. But I know what happened last round. The zombies can break through doors readily enough, and they do after a minute or two, and I lose that round pretty quickly, at which point I wake up.

@Fox I had another dream, over a decade ago, involving a game.

The night before I fell asleep, I was working on modifying a Starcraft map, trying to do the same sort of stuff I'd seen done in other custom maps, like a LotR map that had one of the evil wizards as a Defiler that would shoot Scourge wherever they placed their cloud attack, Dark Swarm, and when the Scourge reached the middle of the cloud, it would explode and do massive damage to whatever was in the cloud.

But the map editing tool only did cool stuff like that via a predefined list of Triggers and a predefined list of actions to be taken when the Trigger is triggered. So I'd spent several hours trying to figure out which ones I could use to accurately get other creatures besides Scourge to spawn and then fly to the Dark Swarm and explode, but I kept having placement issues and various other problems. I eventually went to sleep still thinking about the problem.

And then I started dreaming that I was still sitting there at the computer fiddling with StarEdit, and I was still trying to find the right triggers to use to get everything to work perfectly. And then I found it. I forget what triggers they were, but it was like the way I was trying it, but with one slight tweak that would prevent any placement issues. And I tried it out in the dream and it worked like a charm. I woke up in the morning and remembered it all perfectly and I went to StarEdit and pulled up the triggers and... The trigger I used wasn't in the list of triggers. :headdesk:

  • When I was working in Corpse-Rat security, I mostly had two kinds of dreams: one's in which I was dreaming in C code (I was reading a lot of programming books at the time, often on duty), and ones in which I was endlessly walking around the Olin Corp HQ, but had to keep speeding up until I was running at supersonic speeds and still not going fast enough to finish my rounds. Nothing else ever happened, it was both boring and anxious at the same time with both endlessly ratcheting up throughout the shift despite there being no good reason to be anxious, which is a pretty accurate reflection on the job itself.

  • I survived the hour long Uno hand

    Last night's dream:

I was standing around on a platform looking down into a murky green-gold lake, and people were doing some kind of thing where we set little traps under the water for unsuspecting swimmers. Someone was telling me he was proud of his trap, so I was about to jump under and see what it was, but then he said he'd used actual mines and I'd probably get really hurt, so I gave him a :wtf: look and went over to the other side of the platform to dive under instead. There was this one trap I really liked where a hologram of a Boo would jump out and laugh at you; I had this bright pink Nintendo-brand tablet that was identical to the one that it had been set up on, but I couldn't figure out how to download the hologram onto it to set it up. The thing was designed for floating, so I used it as a buoy and went for a swim around the lake.

Partway around, I found this pair of campers who were setting up to fish at the lake; they were a pair of young Japanese men, and I noticed they had the same tablet. I swam over and started chatting with them. One of them turned out to be the creator of the hologram I liked, but he didn't speak much English; the other spoke a little more, and we fumbled through introductions and my asking for help with my tablet. He put on the hologram and a couple others for me, and I managed to explain that I'd like to repay him but I'm not good with that software, but if he had a 3DS on him I could like and subscribe to his Pikachu in Pokemon Go? He did, so I swam off to get my 3DS and tagged his pikachu (or whatever the fuck my dream brain thought Pokemon Go was like).

Dream hologram guy was cute >.>

I do this a lot when I'm overworked; I start thinking about work before bed, and dream my way through solving the problem. But ultimately by the time I've solved it, the problem has mutated into "how do I sleep" and the answer has to do with putting my brain in a certain state of mind, kind of like relaxation but more so, and letting it sort of... diffuse...

Language kind of fails me at this point, sorry. It has to do with the color yellow and a certain pattern of pleasing shadows created by arranging a series of bars in just such a crystalline structure, only not colors or patterns, but the way my brain sort of perceives them, in an almost trance state.... But it also has to do with mathematical sequences and hitting just the right one...

    ugh.
    Brains.

If I go to bed with a programming problem on my mind, sometimes I solve it in my dreams or in that half-awake-half-asleep state, and I'll remember all or most of the details of my solution. It's really handy when it works within the rules of whatever environment I'm working in (like the time I designed my entire Second Life Soccer Set's script while sleeping), but sucks when my subconscious decides that it's going to add new rules (like with the Starcraft custom map).

  • Last night I dreamed I bought an ancient Jeep Wrangler for cheap, for the sole purpose of storing most of my firearms and range gear in it and parking it in the back of my garage so it's ready to go whenever I want to go shooting, saving me all the time of loading and unloading my daily driver.

That's really not a bad idea at all. Thanks, sleeping brain!

I have come up with games in my sleep, but none of them were any good, and I've never solved a problem in my sleep. Y'all are lucky.
