Chrome pausing for a few seconds every couple of minutes.
-
Turned off realtime scan in virus scanner.
Turned off all extensions.
Restarted computer.I simply don't know what's causing this issue, and most of the advice is years old. Anyone else having this problem, have any ideas?
Just started happening yesterday.
-
Yesterday, my computer started disconnecting me from Guild Wars 2 and Mumble every few minutes. My internet connection is fine, since my Linux computer has been connected to the IRC channel without problems for about a week now.
Maybe Microsoft fucked something up in the required update they released on the 23rd.
-
Yeah, I'm getting dropped from Sky Forge every now and then too. Started about the same time.
However, Chrome locks up entirely.
-
@xaade Now that you're mentioning it, I had weird occasional freezes on Tuesday. Task manager indicated the CPU was at 0GHz at the freeze and ramped back up after. I recently built a new PC however, and had been fiddling with the BIOS settings, so I thought it was that, and I haven't seen the issue yesterday.
-
@PleegWat I miss the interconnectiveness of Chrome, and having separate profile spaces, but I'm using Explorer for the moment to see if it's strictly Chrome, or another problem.
-
@xaade My freezes were in World of Warcraft.
-
Yep, looks like it's the Windows Update on the 23rd that caused it.
I'll uninstall that as soon as I have today's NodeBB update pushed out. Hopefully it won't affect my patch notes being posted.
-
@ben_lubar How would this created occasional freezes in Chrome?
IE seems unaffected so far.
-
@xaade well, the update says:
Improved reliability of Network Controller, DNS server, gateways, Storage Spaces Direct, Group Managed Service Accounts, remote procedure calls (RPC), PowerShell, Internet Explorer 11, printer pairing and interoperability, the Windows kernel, Media Core, Windows Store, Connected Standby, Cluster Health service, the Hypervisor debugger and platform, and Active Directory.
Which is a LOT of stuff, especially the networking stuff. If they managed to fuck up one of those things (PowerShell) and the problems started after the update for multiple people, there is a very large chance that uninstalling the update will fix the problem.
And if it doesn't fix the problem, I can just go back and install the update again.
-
@ben_lubar Ok, I guess I'll give it a shot
Just noticed it broke powershell, but I'm supposed to trust uninstalling it in powershell.
-
@ben_lubar Seems to be working.
It's hasn't paused as much as it did before.
-
@xaade I haven't disconnected from Mumble or GW2 since this morning, and I haven't gotten around to uninstalling the update yet, so I'm confused.
-
@ben_lubar Well, I did the uninstall, and I haven't had a pause that froze all the Chrome processes simultaneously, like before.
A single tab may freeze, but that's always been the case.
The problem I was having would freeze ALL of chrome. Including any extensions or separate Chrome apps, like remote.
Will update if it occurs again.

Now it has broken PowerShell for early adopters of W10

Anyone else having this problem
Not having any issue with Chrome.
Oh, you're talking about Chrome on Windows ?
Nevermind
-
Actually, it might also be the webex plugin doing it.
I have a few more problems, then I noticed that the webex plugin was enabled. Disabled that and the problems stopped again.

I hate Citrix so much. It screws up my performance settings, display settings, and probably a whole bunch of other things without consent.

Try an alternate browser:

@boomzilla To not spot that bug before releasing it in the wild, I see two options:
1- Nobody at Microsoft is using SSDs (unlikely)
2- Nobody there use Windows 10 ;)

Isn't that what they do with every update ?

Yes, but I was providing the obvious correct answer. ;)

It's alright, don't worry, we have a new mechanism that actually transmogrifies tin into silicon, so as soon as the aluminum wears out your protection will fail!

I hope for you that your mechanism is designed to work in sub-zero temperature, I live in Canada after all.

It generates heat as a byproduct, so as long as it's kept turned on during transport...

No, it isn't.

@Tsaukpaetra QA was about to start testing, but they had to reboot their machines
