: d(>_<)b
: How did you get that backwards b??
: Its called a d

Agreed. I think that better explains the intention of :) than :), as the latter is too happy.
I have similar feelings about :(, in my view this emoji is too sad for :( and should be moved to :sad: or :depressed: (both are still free). could then take the place of :( .
-
@AlexMedia I'd rather they didn't do any replacement at all...
-
@AlexMedia QFT.
:)
-> and:(
-> are much better matches.

@dkf I can go with that if we alias it to :munch: as well, she does look like she could swallow my soul... (kinda 'd?).
Also, I like more than since it's clearer, the mounts on the latter one is kinda small and not immediately clear.

@CreatedToDislikeThis I think the people who designed emojis don't have normal human emotions. They have learned to respond to any positive situations by opening their mouth and smiling as wide as they can :D
-
@anonymous234 also to cry at funny things
-
@Jaloopa that's not weird, it's just that not many things are funny enough to cause it.
Hint: pretty much nothing on Facebook and Twitter is

They also seem to have severe liver failure and an 80ties porn stach
-
@anonymous234 Whatever happened to the good old smilies, and when and why did they become emojis?
-
@cvi Unicode scumbags happened.
Emoji was the name of a set of emoticons used by Japanese telecoms. They pressured the Unicode consortium to include them in Unicode so they could switch to it.
There's still time to fix this madness, someone should make a petition to get smilies in unicode as well (just think of it as a different alphabet), but I'm too lazy to do it myself.

There's never time to fix any madness in IT. It's always a rush to get to the next big madness

We could try to sell it as nostalgia ... after all it's been an eternity in internet time

next big madness
IMO, having both a set of emoji and a set of smilies encoded separately in unicode would qualify. But ... I like the idea. Somebody should make that happen.
