I SERIOUSLY hope nobody is still using this OS...

If they are, hopefully they've figured out how html image tags work.

Wow it's almost as if Windows 98 wasn't a multi-user OS and multi-user features were just pasted on. This is fresh exciting news! Thank you for discovering this and bringing it to our attention!

Pretty sure you could also just click cancel as this wasnt a logon for the pc, it was network credentials - not mandatory.

Now all we have to do is invent a time machine and exploit this 14 years ago.
But, it is a horrible WTF, indeed.

I think the WTF is the convoluted route that animated GIF took to get to the desktop:

not mandatory.I recall that, also.
You could then specify credentials when attempting to access network resources (shared drives, printers, etc) and also browse to someone's (local) profile to view their content.

I have done things like that on other computers before. On a Windows 95 computer once, I have pushed the Windows logo key on the login screen, which opens up the task manager (this doesn't work in Windows 98), and run whatever programs I need using that.

yes, this dialog would pop up when connecting to a network after you'd already logged on to the PC and got to the desktop.
