One form to rule them all

  • Meet the "LAN Form". The LAN Form is a form that does all things IT. It creates a new user account. It activates, deactivates, or moves an existing connection. It is used for billing and it is used for support.

The LAN Form *must* be used for all IT requests per the Infosys department at the University of Initrode-Extension. Want Acrobat installed on your machine? Fill out a LAN Form. Need your machine moved five feet down? Fill out a LAN Form. Need a new drive share? You get the idea. The only thing the LAN Form doesn't do is activate a Campus MainFrame account. For one of those you'll need the 3270 Teleprocessing Authorization Form, silly.

The LAN Form is not only used for IBM Compatible and MacIntosh [sic] computers, but it can be used for printers as well. Even that little jack in the wall is ruled supremely by the LAN Form. If the LAN Form does not say the jack is on, the jack is not on.

The LAN Forms are retained on file for up to 5 years, just in case an issue is ever raised in regards to support.

And, if you ever need to obtain a LAN Form, they are rather easy to find, as they are located on the FAQ page of the electronic helpdesk software that the University of Initrode-Extension uses for support. Just seach the online helpdesk for LAN Form and there it is.

  • Is the WTF that it is next to impossible to read?

Yes, that and it is downloaded from an electronic helpdesk software package.

Oh.... I just thought it was bad compression or something for the image when you posted.  So, somebody at the school thought that using an image file would be a good idea for a form?

  • Hold on... I see MS Word's red and green squigglies, and what is that on the upper left hand corner... looks like a "fit screen" icon or something... Was the university distributing an image or a word document?

  • Heh, notice how the spell checker notes there's something wrong with "MacIntosh". Even Microsoft knows how to spell its competitor's name right.

TRWTF is not only that its an image ... it's a frickin' PrintScreen capture of the "LAN Form" from Word!!!!

  • I once had a flyer with an image on the title page.

the WTF here was that there was a cursor on that image, so they didn't just include the image into the flyer, but they made a screenshot of the image, and then included the screenshot.
The strange tjing here is, that the "Print"-button-method on windows automaticly removes the cursor. So That was not the way they did it.

    Yeah, but no wooden table.

They probably cropped it out in Paint; that image looks like it might have been a bitmap at some point in its life.

  • It is just resized in the original post (atleast on my display), just open it full-sized if you didn't figure out that already.

Besides, screenshot is probably the easiest way to get image out of word. PDF might have been better these days, but just a few years ago not everybody had PDF reader.

  •  I like the first footnote, and I imagine this conversation.

Student: Seriously, I've been waiting for two hours for one of you guys.

Tech:  Well, you filled out the LAN Form, right?

S: Yeah, that's what you told me to fill out.

T: Didn't you read the whole thing?

    S:Ummm, what do you mean?

T: Well it clearly states "No ontime setups unless specifically requested."

    S: WTF
