Childlike sense of wonder

  • I found this blog while looking for info on ASP.NET.

After reading a few posts, I found myself drawn into his world, where every little feature of VS or ASP.NET or WPF is a new wonderful shiny gem to be treasured and get excited about

I found this post on TDWTF for info on idiot programmers

After reading this post, I found myself becoming even more jaded, where nearly every first post that includes a hyperlink is either blatant or at best unsubtley concealled spam to be ignored or ridiculed

Ooh, someone is a grumpy guts. Get up on the wrong side of bed this morning?

OK, so for the cynics out there: This is not spam. I posted it out of a sincere desire to share something strangely beautiful.

Some examples from this guy's site:

"Window close event of browser"… people is searching for this key sentence for long and found some solutions also. But sorry to admit that there is no direct support for detecting the window close event of browser or perhaps browser’s tab in html or JavaScript.

Heh, fair enough.  It's typical the one time I pick on what appeared to be "one of these" it turns out to be a genunie post. (I even briefly scanned the website and, no disrespect intended, it appeared rather simplistic and not particularly helpful, but I suppose in one respect that was the point.)

LOL, now I also know to add some excerpts so that it does not appear to be a "gimme traffic" post. :)

  •  Why? Why do I click on links to asp.net material?

Everything about it sickens me. Hell, even the naming conventions are fucked up. The latest post in that blog talks about the "onbeforeunload" method. How many kicks to the head do you need to start coming up with that shit?

Add that to the terrifying way asp.net tries to dress itself as a windows forms app and hide all the client-server interaction from you, rather than being honest about what's going on, and it's truly bile inducing.

What's wrong with that?  All JS events start with "on" and it's the event that fires before unloading the page.  Seems like a very descriptive name to me.  It's actually quite a nice feature and I'm glad Microsoft implemented it.

I'm sure it's a useful feature, but the constant, hamfisted mistreatment of language by the .net framework is distractingly ugly.

I happen to prefer more expressive languages with a more natural feel (ruby is a good example). Every time I have to deal with C#, etc, reading the code has an annoyingly jerky feeling.

Then go use those languages and STFU.

Seriously, why are you here bitching about a tool many other people use and like?

    Maybe he prefers VB...

    Why does anyone do anything?

Seriously, why are you here bitching about me expressing a dislike of something? Is it really that important to you that noone questions the quality of any programming language? How the fuck do you think improvements are made, not just to languages, but to almost anything?

I wasn't just slagging off C# et al just for the sake of critisising something. I actually think the syntax is uglier than your mother, and that it doesn't have to be.

  • Did anyone else notice the line
"Microsoft Dot.net Technology is getting better and moving towards perfection… "
at the top of the page?

It's really scary that people think like that.   Sure, Microsoft made a nice VM and a bunch of languages to target it, and some of those languages are pretty cool (I just discovered that Javascript / ECMA-262 doesn't suck...).   But perfection?  Really?

     FTFY

Perhaps because your "bitching" comes across as knee-jerk and emotional (as opposed to concise thought out objective objections about its architecture/usefulness) reaction and if everyone who had a knee-jerk reaction posted about as such, most threads would revolve around bitching about a specific language or framework?

I don't mind what you said (don't care one way or another), but I don't use these tools, and you can pretty much expect anyone who does use/like them to reply to such a manner - so without any tangible basis for a real discussion it comes across as noise.

Because you sound like an idiot, and you are only doing it to get a reaction.

    Yes you were.

Oh noes! Another idiot who cannot make an intelligent reply.
