So, here's a fun one. I always seem to run into more bugs while trying to file bug reports!
I was trying to file a bug that mentions don't work within parentheses (@blakeyrat)... Except I couldn't find the new topic button anywhere... and eventually I noticed the bottom of a few buttons, barely visible under the top of the sticky bar at the top.
But none of those is new topic... Well, now I navigate into a topic and back out and there it is!
This is not mobile anymore, this is desktop. How is this so fucking broken?
-
To be clear, it's
not consistentlyDiscoNsistently reproducible. I navigate back and forth repeatedly; sometimes they're visible, sometimes they're not, sometimes I just have filter/sort dropdowns and sometimes just the new topic button.
I don't even.Edit: OK, no new topic button on the unread page, but there is one on the recent page, even though they look like the same page.
-
Most of my usability issues on this site seem to deal with the way it uses
position: fixed
elements to create the modern equivalent of a fucking frameset. Except these don't securely mediate by design. They just make things hell. Things floating around the screen, obstructing what I'm trying to see, or halfway off-screen, or under something else.
You made a Desktop Mode for blakey. Why not aposition: static
mode? (I may actually do this myself.)
-
First screenshot seems like the "unread topics" page where there is no "New Topic" button. I guess this might be confusing in some cases.
Both screenshots seem like you just scrolled down a little. I assume you've tried... scrolling up?

Both were scrolled all the way to the top.

@error That happens to be too. I assumed it was because I'm that crazy weirdo who uses browser zoom.

Hey, I use browser zoom too!

Thanks, actually. That was the issue. It's weird though because it's not always a problem when zoomed. It's a sometimes thing.

I'm still getting accustomed to VR-space... I have more of a need to move things around and zoom them in and out now. I have the "Virtual Desktop" but it still only gives me a curved plane. I can't move windows around in 3 dimensions, or even move them outside of the completely arbitrary screen-space.
If anybody can implement a better VR window manager then

Hololens does this, but it doesn't automatically move them into view when focused, so it's a pain to multitask.
This is why I hope I can make an App that can see and affect other Apps objects.

@error Dude your VR shit is getting worse than Ben L with the Dwarf Fortress. Yes you have a VR headset, we get it, we're all very impressed.
-
@blakeyrat It's less "look at me everybody!" and more "I have a problem bordering on obsession and my interests right now all revolve around improving the new world I occupy."
Which I guess could be Ben's deal as well.

Apparently it's not the browser zoom, because it's happening at the office and I don't have zoom enabled.

Quick question: Is the categories/unread/recent/bookmarks/tags/users/groups thing on the same line as the logo or as the topic title?

The latter.

That's the problem, then.
Can you open the developer tools for your browser and find the exact width of the window for me?

Next time I can repro it, I will. I refreshed to make it go away.
-
@error will the window's exact width not be the same next time it happens?
-
@anotherusername I think it was 1920 but I can't remember if it was maximized at the time. I do know that I tried resizing the window and it wasn't helpful.
Still, I don't want to go from memory. Next time it happens, I'll poke at it more.

Hmm....so now stuff just disappears? That seems...suboptinal.

Did you mean: suboptical?

@error That's what I get for posting while eating lunch (grilled ribeye and a salad, BTW).
