Samsung to ruin yet another company
-
@NeighborhoodButcher please stop buying up companies and ruining them, please.
Some choice quotes from HN:
Congratulations. I hope Samsung nurtures the technical excellence at Joyent ...
That said, for my use profile, you guys need to work on your price competitiveness. Hopefully Samsung will inject the necessary cash for economies-of-scale.I'm sure they will. They are a top contributor to open source.
Thank goodness they don't own Node.js anymore.
-
@svieira I don't really understand what you mean. What's Joynet?

The Red Boob people. Creators of Nodejs
Now I'm confused, I though that it was @julianlam whose red boob we're squeezing and that Nodejs is something else?
-
@sloosecannon but if Samsung is going to kill JavaScript I'm impressed and thankful.

Well considering @julianlam's (supposed) gender...... I doubt he has a red boob to squeeze...

Do you want to see nodejs any worse than it already is?
really?
Think about this now :)

They no longer run the NodeJS project, but they do have an Amazon EC2 clone that I've never heard of anyone using.

That's sad, I was hoping that this whole open source Nodejs would be killed along with JavaScript and @blakeyrat would be happy for once.

Can we just try, regardless?

I think it's only useful for debugging nodejs stuff.

Well, if you squeeze it enough, you're almost guaranteed to make it red.

They do have the copyright on the name and "expertise". But really, copyright is what matters here.

Well, if it makes blakey miserable, then I'll start evangelizing node immediately. How about starting with "The 10 Commandments of Agile Webend™(*)"?
I. Thou shalt honor the end user, who works his mysterious ways through various browsers, possibly including IE6.
II. Thou shalt keep thy backend in a virtual image, and put at least one Docker inside another Docker.
III. Thou shalt write all thy functions asynchronously, no matter how absurd it is, for it is the only way.
Etc., until
X. Thou shalt not covet Ruby, C# nor Java, for those are tools of Evil.
(*) A port-manteau I just thought of, and it harbors all your darkest fantasies.

Oh thank %DEITY%! I'm safe with my C++.

Some languages are evil. C++ is a whole different matter. C++ is the Kefka of programming languages.

C++ is what you get when you don't tell a standards committee to shut up and go home.

I don't know of anyone that uses their cloud hosting, but SmartOS (a Solaris derivative that they use on it) is freely available to use on your own hardware. I've used it a bit, and it's a really good OS for running virtual machines.

Node to support SamsungScript in 3, 2, ...
-
@bb36e I assume they'll want to rewrite Node in EFL first, for speed you know.
-
@bb36e
I'm putting my money on a TV running Node
-
@Luhmann node is probably less WTF than EFL, so maybe it's an enhancement
-
@fbmac
It's Samsung, I wouldn't count on it
